we were looking at named Moses. I can hear the call now “Moses…from Wilderness”…
I kind of saw this one coming.
WILDERNESS!!!
Wilderness just wouldn’t look right in any other color but green. Welcome to Niner Nation An’Juan!!!
Welcome to the Wilderness…
Why was he top 100 a year ago but he signs and has less hyped than Tatum who is top 150? Not everyday we sign a guy with offers from teams in almost every major conference.
Did I miss something? Did he drop last season? Lutz said he won a second straight Georgia play of the year award…please fill me in.

Wilderness sounds like great addition, but I know someone who has seen both play and he says Tatum is better. But I agree, the Wilderness signing should get some more pub than it has gotten so far.
I guess when the Observer saw his name, they thought he came out of nowhere…

From the Charlotte49ers.com release:
Nov. 10, 2005
Halton Arena - Charlotte 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz announced that two-time Georgia 4A Player of the Year AnJuan Wilderness (Dunwoody, Ga.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the 49ers in 2006-07.
Wilderness, a 6-6 combo forward out of Dunwoody High is ranked #82 in the n ation by HoopScoop. He averaged 20.1 points and 10.8 rebounds, last season, while shooting 41% from three-point range and 57% from the field. He added 3.1 steals and 3.0 assists for Dunwoody, which won the 4A state title under head coach Scott Braco.
“AnJuan is one of the best athletes in the class of `06 and has earned his high rating (top 100),” Lutz said. “His team wins and he is a huge reason for that with his relentless effort in every phase of the game. AnJuan is a combination forward who scores, rebounds, blocks shots, and makes winning plays. He may remind some of our fans of Eddie Basden before he leaves Charlotte.”
A three-year starter for Dunwoody, Wilderness has helped the team put together a 79-12 record in his career. Dunwoody has won three straight state regional championships and went 29-1 in Wilderness’ sophomore year, advancing to the 4A state final four.

Those are some big words Bobby. But given as how he’s seen the kid more than any of us… I hope he does. The Wilderness Society is gonna ramp up membership in the comming years.
According to Rivals these are the top 2006 guys in the Atlanta area:
Javaris Crittenton, 2006 (Georgia Tech)
Jodie Meeks, 2006 (Kentucky)
Solomon Tat, 2006 (Virginia)
Cameron Tatum, 2006 (Charlotte)
JuJuan Jones, 2006
An’juan Wilderness, 2006 (Charlotte)
John Tiller, 2006
Getting into Atlanta is huge for us. Delonte Hill was the guy responsible for Tatum and Wilderness. How much longer can we keep this guy? I would argue that he is the most important part of our program right now.
Yea…I agree…Hill is so important to the program.
We have to make sure he stays a Niner…or you gotta think it will set our recruiting back a bit.
The new Atlantic 10 school is getting two of the top players from the Peach State. Wilderness joins Tucker high school stud Cameron Tatum. Assistant coach Dalonte Hill served as the primary recruiter for both. Tatum and Wilderness visited Charlotte at the same time two weeks ago.
Hmm Dalonte Recruited these guys…hmmm…cha ching!!!

Kevin Nickleberry was in the same spot a few years ago, bringing in Withers, Basden, Grier and even got Iti for us if I remember correctly. He was the recruiting man, he left for Clemson. Luckily we had Delonte come in and it took a couple of years, but he is finally breaking into high school recruiting in a big way with Beasley, Wilderness, Tatum and Harmon(? think it was him).
I think it is only a matter of time until somebody tries to get Dalonte from us. We can only keep him as long as he wants to stay here, we can’t afford our head coach, I don’t think we can afford our assistants.
I would love to see Hill stick around for a long time, he is just getting started. He is definitely extremely important to the program because of the players he is bringing us.

We’ll hold you accountable for that Bobby! LOL!! Good stuff!!
He scored 28 pts last night, in one of his first games of the season.
I saw Wilderness play 3 or 4 games last year at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach.I was very impressed with his athleticism. He will be an excellent addition to the 49er program.
He had 19 rebounds and 21 pts in a win last night, his team won by 40+ points.
From Rivals…outch.
Dunwoody - The defending 3A state champions aren’t forgotten either. Scott Bracco has a backcourt of three Division I guards and An’Juan Wilderness, a stud mid-major get, as well as a strong sophomore class to boot.
had 25 points last night.
