I hope this as not been touched on in another thread and if so sorry in advance.
Are we in the lead or among the finalist for any recruits for 2013? We have three open schollies and needs at C/PF/ any one that can shoot and is quick. So far I have not seen us being mentioned by anyone. I’m getting a little concerned that we have not picked up a verbal commitment yet from someone. Seems we are behind from where we were last year.
This is not the time of year where many kids are committing. If they don’t sign in the early period, they are waiting for a reason (get more exposure).
We met with someone form Atewe’s camp Sunday down at Kennesaw St.
Major said in this week’s radio show that we are “taking our time” with the 2013’s. Major made it sound like we only have 2 schollies to give (but my math, which is admittedly bad, says that Colby + Bras + JTT + Ilja - Lester = 3 to give). So maybe we are planning on saving 1 of those 3 for a 2014 that we feel we are in good position for.
Major sort of insinuated that we are in the game for a couple of players, obviously can’t name names, but that we are at least in a position to be somewhat selective with how we dole out our 2 schollies.
Additionally, there was a conversation between Swierad and Major about how hard it will be to find the “right” guy that is willing to be patient and wait his turn because our lineup is so young. Everybody wants to know how they fit in and if they are going to play right away. We start 3 frosh and 2 sophs, with Lester and Thorne likely seeing significant minutes next year as well. Whoever we bring in, unless he is a stud, is going to have to be patient like Thorne is being patient, now.

Well then you and the recruits will have something in common.

Is Colby a scholarship player? If not, then we have 3 opening up, and Lester taking one of them, leaving just 2 available.

It is my understanding that Colby got Lester’s schollie this year since Lester didn’t qualify.

But Basden is a 5 star fan
Yeah - dude lives in Australia and is a better fan than 98% of our alums.

Well that’s good to know.
Last year it just seemed like we knew more about the future of our program. I think we already had LOI’s from Lester and Clayton by this point.
I was skeptical of Atwe at first, but if coach K is sniffing around then there is certainly something here.

Look I really don’t want to have a flame war with other Niner fans. (That’s what ECU and Davidson fans are for.) I’m done if he is.
Relax people. It’s hard to recruit when our entire starting line-up is returning, plus 3 guys that see the floor off the bench, and a player who will become eligible. Step off the ledge. Bottom line is, we tend to get guys to come here because they know they will get playing time. Next year, quite frankly, there is no guarantee of that with how many guys we have coming back. Don’t expect this year’s recruiting class to have a lot of guys in it.
Crazy? Cryin? Same old song and dance??
Yeah, don’t make a snarky comment and then talk about not wanting a flame war.
Anyway, Honest is a Niner so he’s good peeps.
