Are you optimistic about 49ers football under Albin?

I know it is early in his career, and maybe my expectations were too high, even though at best I saw us winning 4 games maximum with this schedule, but I have very disappointed in our play, not necessarily the results but it seems as though we have regressed from last year

I expected to see a more disciplined team, yet we seem to be killing ourselves like last year with penalties

I expected to see a physical team, with character players that are fundamentally sound, yet I have seen countless plays where our players gave up on plays, especially tackling, a lack of emotion, poor technique, and defeatist body language

In the trenches, we are significantly worse, less physical , and have we really upgraded at quarterback

Injuries are part of the game, you have to recruit depth, it just seems we missed on a lot of guys, I see a lot less talent on this team nothing at any time since our first few years, recruiting has taken a hit, late start or not, can this staff recruit the necessary talent to compete

Are we better so far on the offensive line, defensive line, quarterback, special teams, halftime adjustments, discipline, scheme, recruiting, character, culture?

My only optimism comes from albins body of work at ohio, not what I have seen so far, I am hoping that like at ohio he needs a year to get going, I am just curious what everyone else is seeing and feeling about the future under him based upon what you have seen so far

Albin can coach.

What is unknown is if we can pay at the level required to compete in this league. I’m not convinced we can.

Between injuries, the roster spots and misjudging some of the players has put us where we are. I do think maybe staff wasn’t aligned to aac level players it takes.

I have been disappointed in our unforced errors still happening, but with a limited depleted roster it’s hard to correct it too much. Can’t send a player to the bench if there aren’t options behind him.

My .02

I read where usf spent 5 mil on their roster. We are between 1.5 and 2. I don’t see how we can win if we can’t get closer to the top of the league.

I’m not optimistic but it has nothing to do with Tim. We’ve been a loser program for hoops and football for my entire adult life. It’s a cultural problem, not a coach problem.

Starting to think we are trying to hold on until Private Equity bails out our budget.

I’ve seen nothing that makes me question Albin or the staff, that doesn’t mean I’m pleased or not frustrated, nor have I seen the players quit…think about what it took to run down the QB last night and create the fumble…it would have been easy to lag behind that because I was ready for him to run it in for a TD..

After 5 games, in my opinion, we can’t really judge the body of work, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be disappointed and puzzled by a few things….I’m sick of losing, sick of being embarrassed on national TV…but that doesn’t dull my enthusiasm for Albin and what I believe will be his success here.

Just my two cents…

Usf has a top 25 nil. The rest of the league is not close to that, with thr possible exception of Memphis. Nil is not our issue

Not to defend our, bc i believe hill should be fired and the AD needs to be overhauled but they seem to be getting the resources they need to win, and fearne and albin have said that. Having over 2 million for hoops nil in aac is quite good. Sorry to slightly sidetracke to hoops

Of 125 roster spots we filled 109 by accident based on rule changes right before the season.

We have a team that seems like 25% of them are injured.

We’re like 5 games in.

I don’t care about success atm. I just want a coach to finish his damn contract already

Well that’s still an issue if usf and Memphis are way ahead of the rest of us it’s going to make competing for conference titles an issue.

And from what I’ve heard basketball is not over 1.5

I’ve heard from someone reliable hoops is over 2 mill but regardless, I like our roster there. Agree on our first point but despite their nil, usf and Memphis are recruiting similar players to the rest of the league. Better by a bit but similar classes

Answer: Yes

I like albin until I see what he does next year. Players move around too much to say a coach needs more than 2 years to have a gauge on what probably gonna be what you get in years 3 and 4

Yes!!

Yes. He is the most proven coach we have had ever had. I believe we will see an improved team over the second half of the season despite all the injuries. The second half of Friday’s game gave me hope for this season. Not a winning one but a more competitive one. I can live with that for this year.

It’s frustrating that we haven’t looked better than we have. On the other hand, it’s hard to expect Albin to correct years worth of mismanagement in an offseason. Looking for some measurable progress for the remainder of the season.

100% agree. I saw fight from the team in the second half against USF that wouldn’t have happened under Biff or Healy. And seeing the way Wilcke played gave me hope that we can at least be competitive if he can stay healthy. After he came in the game the score was 31-26 USF and one of their touchdowns was after the onside kick. USF is really close to being a top 25 team. I’m still not expecting many more wins but being competitive in the remaining games would be much better than looking like we did in the first quarter against USF.

The plus I saw Friday was that we didn’t quit, and I made a bundle when fan duel moved the the spread to 52.5.

the downside I see is that UNCCH has one of the worst Ds I’ve ever seen and we scored 3 whole pts. Every team, especially at our level, is pretty much new every year. No team building exists at our level and we look lost most of the time.

Oh, No! Not already!!!

Honestly, I don’t know what to take from this game. I was impressed with Wikie, but at the same time, I honestly think USF didn’t have their best game. They had a lot of dropped passes that, if converted, we might have seen a bigger final score. They also had a really sloppy second half. They were averaging 1.5 tournovers before our game in which they had 4. Do we contribute that to our defense or their sloppiness? I’m not so sure. Also USF didn’t game plan for Wilkie because there is no film on him. I just don’t want to be fooled into thinking that we are making a turnaround when the other team didn’t play at their best in the second half of the game.

We have to give Albin some time to try and build an AAC roster, now that he is getting exposure to what is needed in the AAC to attempt to compete.

The AD totally missed this point, that i had mentioned before, with the hiring of Biff at the time of joining instead of like a AAC OC as HC or a similar hire.

We have had such a gap in the skill positions, in terms of speed & quickness. DL/LBs are a big gap as well.

My biggest concern now is we really dont have the recruiting territory to compete at this level, lets see. Florida, Texas, Louisiana are loaded with deep talent.
