I think thereās plenty of tape on Wilkieā¦he was the starter at USM before going Juco, if I recall correctly. Whether they scouted any of it is a different matter.
You are correct. I forgot about his playing time at USM.
North carolina is one of the most talent rich states in the country
Iām optimistic. I like where we are with the recruiting class for next year and I have no doubt that coach is learning. He seems like the kind of guy that is humble enough to do so.
I donāt think anyone is expecting a huge turnaround this season as far as winning games. But our offense looked much better with Wilcke running it over Loftis. Probably even better than it looked with Harrell the first 2 games of the season. Iām well aware this could be a Trexler Ivey vs Gardner Webb last season kind of scenario. But the way he played at least gives me hope that he has the ability to look like he belongs against pretty good competition.
Not so sure how talent rich NC really is compared to the more southern states.
Another example, we will see in next couple weeksšā¦.
UGA started last week 2 true freshmen from Atlanta on the right side of OL, the RT is 6-6 360.
5 games in and we know he knows how to coach. I am optimistic.
NC is pretty consistently top 10 in the country for top high school prospects. A lot of those come from the Charlotte area.
Itās hard not to be a little shaken by how bad weāve been this year. The season is far enough along now that we we can see out first three FBS opponents were average to below average (App will be .500ish, Chapel Hill and Rice will struggle to make a bowl) with new coaches and we werenāt really competitive. USF is the first good team weāve played this year and although we fought and almost made a game of it for 1 1/2 quarters were looked like the worst team in FBS.
Wilcke looked good enough to where hopefully we can get another win or two but thatās not a given. Even if we do this year will still be disappointing. We had a game at BOA with a below average App team, a bad Chapel Hill team at home, a game on ESPN, and a game on ESPN 2. Not only did we not win any of them, but we also looked bad in them all.
I still have faith and hope, but this start has been jarring.
Itās obvious we lack talent, we significantly need to upgrade talent, and i know that nil plays a part in recruiting, but so does evaluating players, and having a staff and scheme that players want to commit too, so do we believe that albin will be able to acquire the talent necessary to compete at this level?
Able to, yes. Our nil is competitive and on paper, our portal class was ranked high in AAC but have not panned out
Yes. This season is awful but the answer is not cycling through a new coaching staff every couple of years. Something has to change with all the injuries. You canāt even evaluate the players because they arenāt playing. Depth has been an issue since 2013. Our biggest need is not a QB it is linemen on both sides of the ball.
I havenāt lost faith in Albin.
We need better players, that donāt miss the entire season with injuries. And we may need a new OC.
The entire program needs more money. Where are we on paying for the stadium expansion?
This is simply not true. Microwave society that wants instant results. Regardless of your players you need a system and culture and that takes time. We canāt keep firing coaches like we are Alabama, just because of the ālandscapeā and portal.
We are married to Albin for several years and we need to stay together for the kids to grow up. Got to give him time to figure this place out. Iām not happy with what Iāve seen so far. Upset they botched the 130 player walk on rules which limits our depth. Play calling is too conservative and illogical at times.
Until we finally get a capable qb and serviceable offensive line, we will never be successful regardless of the coach. This programās inability to find a good enough qb is confounding. Youād think we would have just lucked into some at this point, but no. Just Reynolds, and he had too many injury problems to really reach his potential.
In my uninformed opinion, Albin is the best shot weāve had so far. Lambert was a nice opener. Good guy. But maybe not the āprogram builderā we needed. The rest have been super-gimmicks! A 30 year-old jr.varsity cheerleader and then an aging, couture-challenged stock picker who bought high school teams. I say, by all means, letās let Albin have a very good go! The second football coach weāve tried in four tries! Go Niners!
Purdie threw 4TDās today
Harrell was looking good when he got hurt
Still optimistic.
hard schedule. Lots of injuries. New coach.
Donāt lose the faith.
