Itâs a rivalry, I just donât think theyâre a threat. I also think going to their games just to be obnoxious is bad form. A prank here and there can be fun.
the point of a rivalry is you can be beat at any point because you know and hate each other that well. the fact is this it the best possible solution for us

the truth is that at this point, after our last few seasons, we are not in the position to talk smack to anyone. do i expect us to make a comeback? yes. is now the time to talk smack to davidson, who we dont play again for another year? no. we already have enough people in the community that dont like us, lets not make it worse. also, whoever said it was right, davidson will knocked off their high horse again soon, we dont need to force things. quick question though croakie, what did you mean by those davidson yanks? i know a good portion of our board and our student body are from up north so that comment kind of confused me.
i posted this over on the davidson board but i think it needs to be repeated.
come on croakie. lets represent the niner community a little better than that. using words like ***s makes us look bad. there is nothing wrong with a little competitive smack talk during basketball season but at least do it in a manner that doesnt make us look as if we are going over here to start a fight. that is not what niner basketball is all about.
How can you not call Richmond and GW rivals? Epecially considering how the games have played out? They may not be prominent, but they certainly piss me off.

Thereâs no smack talking, you donât run into their fans/students/alum regularly, etc. When I think of rivals I think of my family being Clemson fans and always hating South Carolina. youâd run into SC fans regularly and theyâd trash talk. I HATE Richmond, and even though the school isnât too far from here when do you ever run into their fans around here? When do they get any national buzz?
What about Wake Forest as a rival? Sure Duke and UNC donât like them but they arenât exactly mortal enemies and they usually arenât as good either. Theyâd probably beat us most years, but I doubt if itâd be as much as we beat Davidson/Winthrop.
South Carolina would be a good rival too if we could get some of their attention away from Clemson, they arenât too far away and weâre about on the same level of talent.
If you go to the games in Richmond, you will hear plenty of trash talk.
We have a trophy that we compete over. That makes it a rivalry. But if weâre not playing them, then itâs not really worthwhile to talk smack to them.
If this thread was about adding a good rival to our schedule, Iâd totally agree. The schedule is kind of meh this year.
A series with Cincinnati would be perfect. Those were some of the best memories Iâve had as a Niner fan. I remember the bitterness of the early moments of that rivalry all the way to the triumphant feeling of beating them in the final waning days of CUSA.

For the non-old-fart-fans, the Clemson series was a great rivarly that we should definitely continue. Dewberryâs block, the bus trip, the coach talking trash about Halton. Good stuff.
Georgia Tech is a game Iâm looking forward to this year and Iâd love to bring my cousins (UGA grads and fans) to the game. For those looking for a non-BCS rivalry, ODU is even turning into an unexpected one. Games against them are a show and seem to be decided by the final shot or two. Winthrop isnât the worst place in the world to have a 2-for-1.
Davidson? Well, we beat them 20 times between 1986-2007 (no game in â08 or this year). Letâs see ⌠I remember how they d*cked around with our sked until they decided that they could not care less about our ârivalryâ. I remember how they made the silly demand that if the rivalry is to continue, it should start again at Belk Gym. Yâknow, the sacred hallowed grounds that former Davidson stars Narcisse Ewodo, Davor Halbauer, Ben Ebong, Emeka Erege once graced. I mean, we should kiss the freakinâ floor upon arrival. :rolleyes:
I think I have a solution for Croakie since he wants to root against Davidson in an OOC rivalry game so badly: become a Maine-Farmingdale fan. :lol: Thatâs they type of schedule that they will return to in a couple years.

100% Wrong-----talking smack to a rival is not about the last 2 years, its about âPROGRAMSâ and we can definitely talk smack to Davidson on that front! 26-10 is all that counts!!!

Totally 100% agree. Weâre still far superior to Davidson. Weâre far superior to the Southern Conference, even if weâve had our bumps against them. They are not someone we should ever shy away from belittling as much as possible.
