So will the assistant coach search go beyond the borders of Virginia?
We have a head coach and two assistants that have all been working with guards in their previous jobs. I hope we round out the staff with a big man coach.
Kimble recently interviewed for the UNCA vacancy.
I like the assistants so far. They seem to be young energetic guys who are well respected. It does sound like the third assistant needs to have some experience coaching post players. That may not be that big of a deal but everyone else seems to be guard & perimeter oriented. Hard to recruit bigs if you donāt have anyone to coach them.
With the new style of versatile, small ball offense, the idea of a post coach is somewhat outdated. I am sure Sanchez is smart enough to work with bigs. Hire the best guy first.
clt says Asheville is really nice.
When one of these guys inks a stud to play hereā¦Iāll be a little more excited !
Still waiting for a local connectionā¦
Definitely canāt hurt but Sanchez has already recruited the Charlotte area, while at UVa and Kimble spent time at UNCA and Coastal Carolina, so Iām sure he has lots of NC connections.
Thatās true. Big men arenāt as important as they used to be so a dedicated big man coach may be outdated. Post player recruiting was one of the complaints with Priceās staff & it is hard to get them to come here if there is not a coach who can help them develop.
clt says major was a big man specialist
Kimble has worked at UNCA and Gardner Webb, heās undoubtedly recruited Charlotte. Sfera has landed 3 Charlotte kids at Liberty, 2 for 2018 and 1 for 2019.
Iād love another guy that has recruited here but if we went with a guy with big GA or DMV ties, Iād be ok with that.
If Major can coach big men & bring in the quality of recruits we had when he was here I say sign him up. Just donāt let him run the program & make sure his contract requires him to completely shave his head. Not just half of it.
Iād be good with someone from Yugoslavia or Haiti if he can recruit !
Iām ready for that first big splash !
One of the biggest failings of Price was not bringing in enough big men. I hope that trend reverses. You canāt teach height and long arms.
Define āsplashā
Top notch recruit.
I still think Dinkins deserves a look.
Splash: defined as ā¦if Lutz were on the staff then he would sign Withers. The signing Withers part would be the āsplash.ā Or evenā¦the signing Lutz to the staff part. Either oneā¦would be considered āsplash.ā
Dinkins wouldnāt be a good fit IMO with 2 young coaches on hand already. Dinkins has no college experience, that would concern me with the staff already in place.
Lutz going after Withersā¦dead horse anyone?
What would be the risk of bringing Major back as an assistant/recruiter?
What would be the risk of bringing Lutz back as AHC to bring experience to a young staff?
