We can easily be getting a new AD, new MBB coach, new FB coach, and a NEW NAME within the next year.

The name change may take place faster than any of us ever imagined.

News & Observer in Raleigh has picked it up. I’m pitching it at WCNC(NBC Charlotte) now for them to do a story on it. It seems to have a lot of sympathy towards our cause.
Phil says he won’t tackle it, but the right amount of public pressure changes things.

Nice barstool. You’re making a difference

I never thought this would get off the ground honestly. I really didn’t think it would happen this soon. We gotta keep the pressure on. This is amazing, and I’m so glad it’s gaining traction.

Somehow, the local media has noticed us in our darkest hour.

I just hope this all gives Phil a headache.

“University of Charlotte”.

I’d be happy if Phil just switched the domain to Charlotte.edu to set the stage for a total rebranding or name change in coming years. My bar is pretty low for Phil.

clt says she apparently wasn’t on campus much: https://mobile.twitter.com/LibbyWeihsmann/status/961363731212009472

glad to have her support?

clt says that is low hanging fruit and should be accomplished over the summer.

Libby has to be #1 in terms of potential to be a Niner media celebrity and crash/burn.

clt says graduation rates are higher at other schools because they are easier.

Is there a petition out there for a name change?

If not, one of you eloquent writers should make it so.

Any of you that think even a University wide rebranding would work are deluding yourselves. VPI didn’t have to shake off the “University of Virginia” name in their rebranding. They simply did away with a relatively unknown name that was uniquely their own for another also unique name of their own choosing. We face the prospect of divorcing ourselves from a name associated with a giant in this state and nationally. Simply changing the letter head and signs won’t do in our case. The names on the diplomas must change too or local media and the public will simply laugh it off as desperation and keep on calling us UNC-C. This isn’t something we need to half-ass if we want it to take.

My thought process is rebrand everything and once we have rebranded then we make it official. That’s going to be much easier than going through the hoops first. As we saw with football it will take years to get each gate passed to officially change the name. The rebrand can happen much quicker. Rebrand and get in with our image and once that is in we can worry about the official change and how ever long it takes.

If a rebranding is successful, then you completely remove the reason to officially change the name. Why spend money when you don’t have to?

If a rebranding fails, then money will rule again and whoever is in Bissel House at the time will say to us “Well…we tried” and then we’ll be stuck with a mish-mash of different names and confusion that will make the current situation look downright simplified.

The Board of Governors can not oppose a name change from “UNC-” without looking like hypocrites. Wasn’t even half a decade ago they were all for renaming Fayetteville St. as UNCF. We should do it right the first time and not give the University’s “leadership” an easy way to back out later.

I just want to move faster. I have no fear a rebrand would fail.

Anything done half-hearted is prone to failure, and if there’s one thing the U leadership is good at it’s doing things half-hearted that are forced on them.
