Doesn’t give the reason for suspension from UNC-CHeat. But I’ll speculate he accidentally did his own homework. :))

Name change debate OVER as Clay Aiken is in camp #DroptheUNC

"As a @GoHeels fan & PROUD @unccharlotte alum add my loud voice to chorus of people who know it’s possible to respect UNC AND still feel strongly that UNCC is too important, unique, and prestigious to be hidden by Chapel Hill’s shadow! I VOTE #DroptheUNC #longoverdue"

Seems like the tarheel Observer supports the idea too.

Keep the movement going!

clt says it is happening.

#droptheUNC just got 700,000 impressions with Clay

clt doesn’t understand any of that, but it sounds good.,

UNC brand not important to Carolinas Healthcare - http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article198815854.html

Can someone explain how the name change would be approved? Would it simply be something that ultimately ended up in a BOT vote? And if given approval, would the name change then roll out when and how the university saw fit?

clt says clay aiken will tweet, thus releasing the claymates on Phil. Phil then changes the name.

Hopefully with a Stone Cold Stunner

Conjectural but based on what happened with football:

First a committee must be called by the Chancellor to “investigate all the aspects” of a name change. Probably some public forums will be held to judge the community sentiment (students, faculty, alumni, interested city, county and state officials, ect.). After that the Board of Trustees will review the results presented by the committee and then schedule a vote.

Then they will vote.

Assuming a YES vote by the Board of Trustees it will be put to the System-wide Board of Governors.

Assuming another YES vote, and assuming the money to make all the legal and physical changes required doesn’t come from some already allocated discretionary fund already at the University’s disposal; then the money to affect the changes will probably go into the next annual budget for the entire system that goes before the legislature.

That assumes it’s an official name change. If it’s just a rebranding ala VT not sure it’s much more than just chancellor deciding even though Phil would probably seek BOT input.

The rebrand and keep official name (VT solution) is not a compromise. It would work. Every last piece of public content that’s visible says UC: Uniforms, internet, signage, stationary, all apparel, commercials, websites, and most importantly social media etc. There would be no confusion.

While we may not get the name change with Dubois, the support is there that much is clear…I think the support is much more vocal as well. Seems like 80/20 in favor.

REMINDER: Be cordial! Just explain stuff as it is and don’t personally attack those who wish to keep the status quo. Makes people feel more sympathetic towards us

I’ve found the most powerful argument is the CC = community college and instances where our achievements are attributed to chapel hill. There isn’t a counter to those two things.
