the only poll we got any love in was a meager 9 votes in the USAtoday poll.
Does anybody else think we got snubbed? we are 10-1 with a big win already over highly ranked USC. we should be a top 25 or 30 team IMO.
thoughts?

Oregon State is 5-5 and is ranked. Wow. I wonder how baseball rankings work. Not familiar with it at all I must say…

I know I’m bent.

We lost 1 game. We beat the hell out of a top 10 USC team. WTF is going on.

Get this. South Carolina actually went UP in the rankings after loosing to us. From 8th to 6th.

"The Gamecocks put together a dismal midweek performance against Charlotte, but bounced back in style over the weekend. South Carolina finished the week with a 3-1 record thanks to a series sweep over Duquesne. "

Is this some kind of a joke?

Last time I checekd - our conference is a waste of time in baseball… Is a series sweep over HP not equivalent (i havent looked at stats, this is all assumption)

UCLA and Rice both lost 3 or more games to unranked teams this week. yet both are still top 10.

Baseball rankings are done by Atlantic 10 basketball officials.

Baseball rankings are dont be Atlantic 10 basketball officials.
HUH?

Let me prefice this with I wish we were ranked…

but why we are not:

Our SOS is 182
We are 1-0 against top 100 rpi teams
we are 1-0 against teams with winning records
We are 0-1 against .500 teams

Now if we keep winning we will move up sharply

5 of our next 6 are against top 100 teams
Wake is 15th
and Furman is the only team out of the top 100 but they are 7-3

HUH?

whoops… adjusted.

(trying to be sneaky while typing in lab.)

AHH.
much better.

now. shagg49er:

do you think wins against wins against furman, wake, and 2 over stony brook would be enough? that would make us 14-1 with wins over USC and Wake. Carolina is still a month away.

those two games will be defining games I believe.

i agree. we still have 20+ games until the first carolina game and we are going to lose at least a couple. i'm wondering if we win 15 of the next 20 (which, IMO is attainable for this team) and beat Carolina 1/2 are we going to get more respect for those quality wins or more frowned upon for potential losses to Saint Louis, Radford, LaSalle, etc.

Speaking of Wake, here’s a little scouting report from Baseball America:

Scouting Report

Wake Forest

Wake Forest’s tune-up for the grueling Atlantic Coast Conference schedule featured a cross-country trip to Pepperdine and games against Kennesaw State, Troy and Penn State at the Screentech Wireglass Classic in Dothan, Ala. There wasn’t a lot of breathing room in that schedule, but the Demon Deacons carry a 5-4 record into their ACC-opening series against Clemson this weekend. A National League crosschecker who was in Dothan broke the Deacons down:

"(First baseman/third baseman Allan) Dykstra can really hit. He was pitched around all weekend, but he was very disciplined, and he was very good the previous weekend when he went 3-for-3 against (Pepperdine’s Brett) Hunter. The guy they moved him to third base for (Evan Ocheltree) was the guy who jumped out to me. I really like this guy, he’s almost like Tyler Colvin part two. He’s 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, classic baseball body, blonde shaggy hair coming out from the back of his hat. He’s a sleeper for me—he’s very aggressive and swung the bat very well. That team can hit, with Dykstra, Ocheltree, and that little Willy Fox guy. That little guy can really hit. I don’t know why they played him in right field—he has a very well-below-average arm—but he stands out at the plate, he can really square balls up.

“On the mound, though, they’re short. (Righthander Ben) Hunter is their No. 1 guy, and he was 86-89 with his fastball. He locates his breaking ball, so he really had his way against Kennesaw State. But he’s really more about a funky arm slot. Their No. 2 pitcher, (Garrett) Bullock, was really a soft-tossing lefty, and I didn’t really see anything special out of their bullpen either, so they better hit.”

thanks mrbj, original post edited to include baseball america poll as well. interesting stuff about wake too…

3 things:

 • How did USC move up when they lost to us and swept a winless Duquense team?

 • I noticed that Coach Hibbs was on the 2008 Board for the USA Today Coaches poll.

 • Wake took 2 out of 3 from Clemson this weekend.

3 answers:

-according to the world: Every SEC team automatically > any A10 team.
-that would explain why we got 9 points there and no votes in the other polls. lol.
-Wake is solid. Wednesday is going to be a tough test for our boys. who is scheduled to pitch?

Collegiate Baseball Magazine will give us love first.

Baseball America is located in Raliegh and are bigger ACC jocksniffers that Spangfi and a WFNZ caller, we will be in the top 10 of the other polls before we crack their top 25.
