Redshirt freshman hitting the portal.
When will we heard the news? Any additional info you can share?
What is going on with Bo Robinson?
Anything??
15 to 17 is a big number for a program that just had a great year. Would still have to look at who is involved with those 15 to 17 leaving to get a feel if they are Woodward recruits or not, Bo’s recruits or not, if players leaving were concerned over playing time or recruited over moving forward. There does seem to be some growing pains with new regime fully implementing their vision of what 49er baseball should look like and operate like.
Was Bo pushed out or moved onward/ upward for greener pastures is my biggest question.
I think we had around 45 players this year so most of these guys were probably not getting playing time and wanted to go somewhere they could play with the new transfer rule. It is not uncommon for a new coach to want to bring in his own guys so even keeping Bo two years was unusual.
I have no inside information. Bo has been with us for 9 years, and has risen to Assoc. HC. Maybe he is ready to be a HC somewhere and getting his shot, or maybe he will be the #2 at a bigger program. For him, this is a career, and coming off one of our best years ever it may be time to make his move. This doesn’t have to be about unhappiness.
No question that Covid has packed the locker room. I am sure there are people that feel like they need to move to get playing time. That is to be expected. I think what we need to see is who is transferring out…and who is transferring in.
I read an article earlier this season that talked about Woodward’s expectations for the team. No facial hair, act like adults–that kind of stuff. Not every kid is going to like that. Coach thinks it pays off on the field though. Anyone that transfers because of that is going to run into challenges in life too. Too bad they are missing the learning opportunity.
I bow to metro’s pitching knowledge, but it seems like Woodward has a record of success in this area, and the team’s investment in training and technology is matched by few teams in the NCAA. I am not sure you can expect great results in what was effectively year one.
Even with one of, if not our most successful season ever, there is plenty of room to get better. I see no reason to panic because some changes are happening.
Good riddance, we probably don’t even need those players anyway
If guys like Knight, Groover, Butcher, etc… leave, then I would worry. But the majority of our core players are young and talented.
I’d be interested to see the list of who’s left once finalized. If it’s non contributors, then it is what it is. They were more than likely never going to play anyway.
I also saw where we picked up 2 quality arms from ECU and APP. I don’t think we’ll have any issue adding talent from the portal.
After comments on this matter. I have come to realize most of you have no idea what is happening internally within the program.
Internally sounds like a lifetime Niner that was asked to leave the program by the new coach is not happy, but I could be wrong. It is always nice when you can keep alumni as coaches, but sometimes you have to go in a different direction.
Should we? If ignorance precluded posting here, there would be far fewer posts.
We were literally two innings away from being 2-0 in the Greenville Regional and in the drivers seat for a super. I’ll take my chances HC Woodard knows what he is doing.
Fucking enlighten me then. Why would we have internal information on the inner workings of the team. Programs need to keep things in house or you end up with a shit show. I want to be a fan not a groupie and my ego does not need to be in the know on all things. I have final expectations that I want met and if not then I can express my opinion. This reality TV world with housewives of 49er baseball is not for me. Run the program and win.
Any DI baseball program that consistently finishes in the top 25 and hosts NCAA Regional Tournaments is a cauldron of competition. It’s as meritocratic and Darwinian as it comes. If you can make a positive contribution on the field, you play. If you can’t, you sit.
Ask any player on a club of this caliber, and they’ll tell you that the toughest competition they ever faced was from their teammates. That’s why Fall Baseball and the weeks leading up to the start of the regular season are so grueling and significant to the season-to-come.
Teams that win consistently at a high level are populated by extremely tough people; both players and coaches. They’re resilient, super competitive, and driven to succeed.
Not everyone is cut out for the environment; and, sadly, quite a few come to realize this after they’ve arrived. Fortunately, the transfer portal now exists for those who couldn’t make it imperative for the coaches to put them on the field; and, they’ve been granted the opportunity to access it without penalty once. Those who choose to do so will find their way to more comfortable environments, where there’s less pressure to win and perform at a high level.
Coach Woodard and his staff were given a mandate in the Summer of 2019. The expectation was communicated strongly that they were to elevate the program to a level that would perennially contend for Regional and Super-Regional championships. He was chosen, in part, because he’d played in two College World Series and coached in two. In short, he knew what it takes to get there.
This staff is going to do what it takes to consistently achieve the objective that’s been set for them. Those on here who are disgruntled with the fallout from the challenges that an effort such as that require haven’t sniffed what it takes to succeed at the levels that are expected.
Get on board, or go somewhere you’re more comfortable. Meanwhile, as a committed fan of Charlotte baseball, I’m looking very forward to more 40-win seasons and NCAA playoffs.
So your saying you know who transferred and none of them played significant roles?
