Baseball Week 13- at Rice (CUSA TV)

Yes,Pilolli is out for the year from what I’ve heard. McCabe came in at DH for one at bat last night.

Strange that we hired a pitching coach and promptly improved a great deal overall, but with pitching suddenly a concern.

I think he needs another year or two to recruit the pitchers we need, but in the mean time our current pitchers have done an incredible job. #18 in the nation doesn’t suck.

I think our position players are mostly responsible for us being as good as we are. Pitching lately has not made the opposition put the ball in play enough. Its hard to judge our guys control issues with the lack of quality umpires calling balls, though

Maybe I’m just expecting too much. Scores seem to be generally high in the college game.

Interesting tidbits about our current RPI vs. Our competition to host one of the 16 regionals: As of Sunday afternoon, we have dropped to 22 in RPI. However, 4 teams currently ahead of us in the RPI are NOT among the 20 host site finalists. Additionally, 3 teams that are among the 20 site finalists are still behind us in the RPI rankings.

Charlotte is going to be no worse than a 2 seed in some regional. If I had that option before the season started, I guess I would have taken it. :innocent:

Here’s hoping Chapel Hill does not make the field because if they do, you know damned well they will be in the same region as us. (and will figure out some way to shaft us)

Coming into the season it was matter of whether or not we could throw enough strikes. When we limit walks and HBPs, we are really good. Lately, we’ve struggled with that. And yes, this weekend was a prime example. We aren’t getting abused. We’re abusing ourselves. I also think you’re seeing some similar issues across the league. Look at what LT and USM have done lately. Not exactly dominant. I think the 4 game weekends are catching up to everyone.

As for the offense being consistent, it makes sense. Our hitting has been under the guidance of Bo Robinson for going on a decade.

We’re ahead of schedule. We shouldn’t have gotten this far, but here we are. This has wound up being one of the best seasons in program history and it isn’t over yet. I hope they get more people into the Hayes for UNCW. The guys deserve a good crowd.

Very good point about the four game weekends

If La Tech can hold on to the current 8 run lead they have over UTSA, they will claim the West.

EDIT: looks like that game has ended due to the 10 run rule.

The East has the 1, 4, 5, 6 seeds and the mighty West has the 2, 3, 7, 8

Woodard has talked about this all year. We’ve been 1st or 2nd in C-USA in Opponents Batting Average, we just get into trouble with the free passes.

…and HBPs.
