It summer, and as we will soon have a football team, lets have some football talk.
Do you like the BCS or hate it?
How would you improve the current system (bowls)?
What kind of playoff system would you like to see (# of teams, ectâŚ)?
Any thoughts on collegesâ #1 sport?
I hate the BCS. The set up should be just like BBall. I want to see a tournament at the end, not these stupid bowls. Collegeâs #1 sport is BBall, hands down.
Colege football is without a doubt the #1 college sport. We just donât always realize that without a team. Basketball, while fun, is no where close to football.
The BCS is a load of crap. They should take the current bowlâs and work them into a play off. Say the top 8 teams play in the rose, sugar, fiesta and orange and then the winners move until the top 2 are in the title game. All the other bowls can stick around too, so that schools that are not in the tourny are not left out of post season.

#1 in playoff set-up I agree, #1 in revenue and attendence has to go to FBall though.
I like the DI-AA set-up. 16 teams, conference champs and best ranked at larges. Seeding on BCS type rankings, not a freaking committee.
The one thing I would miss from the bowl system is the fact that it really does turn the regular season games into a playoff atmosphere. Every game really does count.
Football will always be #1 in revenue because it has the biggest stadiums.
For me though, college basketball will always be #1. I canât get enough of it.

Wait till our first game. It wonât deminish your love for the hardwood, but it will increase your love of paint marked grass.
If we had to stick with the bowls Iâd like to see the Cotton Bowl added to the BCS and the top 2 non-BCS conference champions get automatic bids, with the current format for Non-BCS teams still applied. Imagine 3 or even 4 mid-majors making BCS bowl games!

I'm sure of this, and I've been to a VT football game and enjoyed it, but nothing can beat the atmosphere and fun of a college basketball game.

As much as I hate the BCS, 9 times out of 10 it gets it right.
I would prefer playoff. I think it is very unfair for the SEC to be as strong a conference as it is.
I think 8 teams is plenty for a playoff. I think 16 is a little much and it takes away from the regular season. 8 teams would provide a good playoff, without taking way the notion that every game counts in the regular season. I would also take away the âmax of 2 teams from a conferenceâ rule and I wouldnât throw ND a bone.
Collegeâs #1 sport is football, without a doubt. TV ratings and $$$$ show that more than anything.
Bust please tell me you have been to another college home game outside of Halton to say that the college experience is thrilling. if you like the experience you should try your best to go to Cameron Indoor, if nothing more than for the love of the game in that building.

8 teams sounds like a great way to kill off Mid-Major football programsâŚLike US!
Iâd perfer the current system to this one, at least Mid-Majors can get in that oneâŚnow.

Are you saying you donât like the BCS b/c it doesnât determine a champion or b/c it doesnât give midmajors a chance? I guess what I am asking is, are you shaping the bowl CHAMPIONSHIP series to determine a champion, or are you trying to cater to the 49ers?
With 8 teams you would have the top 8 teams that deserve a shot to win a national title, right now the number stands at 2 so I think this is a greater chance. You would still have other smaller bowls for the teams that donât make the top 8 and are invited.
The talent gap between midmajor and high major is far greater in football than it is in basketball. Not saying a Boise state couldnât pick up a win in the first round, but it would be far easier for a Florida/Ohio State to run the table.

I would perfer a playoff that allows all 11 conference champions access to the playoff, plus allows the best remaining teams (5) to get in as well. Admittedly #1 seed OSU vs. #16 seed Troy (Sun Belt champ) would be a huge mis-match, but at least Troy would be given the chance, and its the same way the BBall tourney is set up.
The current BCS (5 bowl version) allows a non-BCS school in if they finish in the top 12 or finish higher then a BCS conference champ.
Under an 8 game playoff the 6 BCS conference champs would get in plus only 2 others, can you imagine the likelyhood of a Boise St. getting in in those circumstances.
I think that if every conference champ is included, recruits would find more reasons to consider good Mid-Major programs over the lower BCS teams because the access to the national championship will be more open, and they have a better chance at playing time at the Mid-Major. This would help close that talent gap some.
My 1st concern will always be whatâs in the 49ers best interest.

i like this idea, but i was thinking more on the realistic terms. The BCS (aka $$$$) wouldnât go for this. If charlotte wants whats best, they need to put themselves in the best situation to join the big east.

I couldnât agree more about us and the Big East! Its a natural IF we do it right and can garner enough fan support!
As for the BCS, I donât even think that a playoff system outside of the top 4 teams is even realistic, thereâs too much BCS bowl money, and if Jerry Jones really wants to get the Cotton Bowl into the BCS heâs gonna need to give the 4 current bowls a lot of money, A LOT! I hope he does because thatâs more chances for Mid-Majors to get in, but even his 120,000 seat stadium isnât enough to get it by itself.

What are you saying?
Iâve been to a UNC game back when I was a tarheel, but it was their horrible season under doherty. Not much fun. Iâve also been to a USC game. This one was pretty fun. It was last season when they had what was left over from the B2B NIT championships. But their super fans donât even come close to ours and Iâm not just saying that because I am one of them.
Question: What does the âCâ stand for? I know what the âBâ and âSâ really stand for.
The BCS is a joke. A 16 team playoff (or even 8 team playoff) would become the best sporting even in the world⌠even better than the NCAA Basketball Playoffs and better than the A10 Tournament (insert sarcasm icon here).

I would love to have an 8 team playoff if there were only 8 conferences and every team in DI-A were in one of the 8, with conference champions being the only ones into the playoffs. Under the current 11 conference format, the 8 game playoff would be a disaster for Mid-Majors. It would be the final nail which would lead to the final split between the Mid-Majors and the power conferences, or worse, the power conferences leaving the NCAA to form their own private association.
Hereâs what it would have looked like last year.
Ohio St (Big 10) Wake Forest (ACC)
Florida (SEC) Oklahoma (Big 12)
Southern Cal (Pac 10) #3 Michigan
Louisville (Big East) #4 Louisiana St
Notice that #8 Boise St was NOT included.
And NO, the power conferences will NEVER allow a system that excludes their conference champions from the playoff, no matter how low theyâre ranked. Boise St is still OUT in this formula.
A 12 team playoff would be OK with 6 BCS champs and top 2 Mid-Major champs and 4 at-larges.
A 16 team playoff with all conference champs and 5 at-larges is best in my opinion.
I believe that all bowl games not in the playoff format should remain as they are, after all, the market for those games will not be affected by the switch to any playoff format.

Itâs not perfect, but this would be a better method of determing the national champion than the BCS as it is now.

The BCS already only looks at their top 12 teams so why not just take the top 12, before you think this is a ludicrous idea, you could seed them as regionals. The top 4 seeds earn a bye and have home field (not necessarily at their school but a regional site). Two teams play and the winner gets the top seed in that regional. It allows whoever to get into the top 12, which Boise St. did last year, and could even allow for multiple berths from really good conferences like the SEC.
8 to me just seems to be too little, people are still going to bitch if theyâre #9.
16 is too many and takes away too much money from the greedy BCS, but if for the first two rounds you play at a regional site you have a chance to garner a huge amount of revenue.
Yes, 12 teams would still cater to the top 4, but the top 4 teams in college football are usually the only teams being mentioned for the BCS title game.
Just another option.

I like it! Then what you do is call the two semi-finals the âthe orage bowlâ and âsugar bowlâ or whatever, and the championship is the ârose bowl.â And then maybe you could add a consolation game if they want and call it whatever the other big bowl is.

Look at that⌠we donât even have football yet and we are already solving their problems!
