Biff Poggi Fired

Not sure what you’re referring too.

The truth is, the fans that are still around, especially on here, we may disagree with the approach, vehemently sometimes, but there isn’t a person here I think doesn’t love the school and want the best for it.

I mean it’s still our official name.

Wish it wasn’t, but it is.

I’ll never forget that old boomer yelling at me after we lost a close road game to Wake Forest, “JUNIOR COLLEGE! JUNIOR COLLEGE! YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM!” Oh it would be delicious if we beat them in a football game.

Mike Hill waited until we were disqualified from bowl eligibility to fire Biff, just like he did with Healy.

It was certainly time for him to go and anyone surprised by him getting fired in year 2 hasn’t been paying attention. Biff himself has said repeatedly from day one that if he doesn’t produce he should be fired. I was hoping he would quit before we had to fire him though.

“We have lots of big-time, really good football players here and they’re invested. If we’re not successful, I would encourage Mike Hill to walk down the hill and fire me immediately. Because this team should win right from the start.” - Biff Poggi

I can’t say that I agree with the handling of hiring his replacement, but Biff had to go. He was already gone and never really cared about being here.

You gotta wonder if Charlotte was just a stage for Biff!

I think he came in and thought he could upgrade talent and just win and it would be fun. As soon as he realized it wasn’t going to be that and he talked a bunch of crap he couldn’t back up he disengaged.

When he came by the tailgate and hung out for a bit his first spring game I had a feeling we had made a huge mistake.

clt says a wake forest old calling us a junior college shows his lack of knowledge. we have almost as many doctoral programs as wake has grad programs in total.

This. Biff underestimated how difficult this was going to be from the start.

I get your point but I see the opposite too. Those may have been his recruits but you still have to help them learn to play together in really short order. And he had no college HC experience so seemed like the leash should’ve been longer for him. Not saying he was the right guy for us, but still expected him to have longer than 2 seasons.

Under normal circumstance maybe but I think there was a lot of other stuff going on that’s already been covered as well.

This was almost 20 years ago now. I wonder how it stacked up then. The Uni has exploded in growth since I attended.

Hang in there Niners fans. It’s unfortunate you had to fire another coach - very early into his tenure - but it was absolutely the right decision.

Your AD should have never hired the man but I give him credit for not getting trapped in a sunken cost situation.

Can you envision Biff Poggi out-scheming Jon Sumrall or Jeff Monken or Ryan Silverfield? If the answer is confidently “no”, which it is with me, he probably shouldn’t be at the helm of your fair program.

Same here. He came by ours up the hill from you and I thought the same. I was hoping he would surprise us. I reaaly liked him and wanted him to succeed bigly.

At this years Homecoming game i asked him his thoughts on winning against USF and he just shook his head and mumbled yes. Something was definitely amiss. He was like a deer in the headlights and all indications of bravado were completely gone.

^This. He came out to his first practice session sloshing around a cup of coffee…it’s like he was at the beach. It seemed right then that Biff was not all in.

We do. Barring a miracle, looks to be another botched search.

With so many players leaving and no recruits just yet next year could be ugly no matter the coach. Hopefully new coach can work the portal.
