I know it is a very REAL possibility. I want to know others thoughts. Are we in line to hop on the Big East when it comes, or we get but raped in conference affiliation again?
Did we start a football team or become private since last week? Then thank your lucky stars our conference is as good as it is.

How do you know it’s a real possibility?
lets join the MVC
Damn I thought it was going to be a link to some actual news.
This should be in Ramblings.
…or better yet, in a new forum called: Random, Baseless Bullcrap.
It will split, too many teams will get “snubbed” because of the conference size. A football and a basketball conference will emerge with the bball taking pick of the A10 and now CAA teams. Here’s hoping we are one of them. An A10 without Temple, St. Joe’s, Xavier, GW isn’t a pretty thought…

Pure speculation. I think the Big East reveled in their power this year and record 8 teams in the confernce.
I don’t think they’ll split any time soon. Those basketball schools made a lot of money for the Big East this year!
caa and mvc look prety good about now!
Speculation, but pretty much taken as truth by a lot of people. Even Lutz mentioned something about it last summer/fall. No, it isn’t 100% certain, but once enough teams find themselves in the position Cinci and Louisville were this year, I think there is a good chance it will happen.
Big East will split in three years. The contract will not allow a split before three years. As much money as the 8 teams in the NCAA made, this is small compared to football. It is well known that the Big East wants the non-foot playing schools out of the league. The questions is whether we are in the position to be part of the league with G-town, Nova, Providence, Depaul, etc.
If i’m not mistaken, and please correct me if i’m wrong, but when the BE realigned, there was some agreement that the conference teams would stay as is for 5? years. Am I just imaging I read something along those lines during the whole fiasco?
Assuming my memory is good… my guess is that it breaks once that time period is over. 16 teams poses a number of issues, most notably scheduling (specifically for basketball). Also the conference still only has 8 football memebers. There will be some reorganization to make a 12team (football) conference (if i recall the magic number for a conf champ football game), which will then initiate further realignment among other conferences.
Till then, enjoy the A-10, and someone bump this thread in 5 years.
Edit: Wood posted during my typing… maybe 3 years is the magic length of time.
We have to continue to win. Which of the below teams get left out? And I did not even list Fordham, LaSalle, Bonnie, and Duqesne or any of the CAA schools.
How big will the conference be? This list is almost big enough for 2 conferences, especially if you add some of the other schools. If we have one of the better programs available, our odds are better.
Charlotte
Temple
GW
Georgetown
Nova
St Johns
UMass
Rhode Island
St Joes
Xavier
Seton Hall
Marquette
DePaul
St Louis
Dayton
Providence
Notre Dame (could be football independent)
Richmond

T-minus five minutes until Zone9er posts about how we need to be proactive and start a conference with UNCG.
The Big East will breakup in 2010, but the planning for new conference affiliation will start long before that, if it isn’t currently.
Our future conference will depend heavily on what the non-football playing schools do. Those schools will form a new conference of eight to twelve teams. They already have eight if Notre Dame stays football independent, and could easily stay at that number. Xavier or Dayton are no-brainer adds if they wanted to get to nine or ten, again depending on what ND does.
They could go to 12, where I believe we’d have a legit shot to get in. Maybe it’s my heavy 49er bias, but I don’t believe the existing members would take another school from the same market. So no St. Joe’s, no GW, etc.
In a parallel universe where an alum is the CEO of BoA, we’d startup football, get invited to a conference with the football members of the Big East, recruit the top players from Independence High School every year, and play in a BCS bowl game by 2015.
The big east will split.
However the non-football schools are catholic, & will start a catholic league. Good for St. Joe’s, Xavier, & St. Louis, not good for us.
What makes anyone think the Northern Catholic Non-Football Big East will take a southern public school?
Our only hope is football, something an AD w/ a brain would have done when we joined football playing C-USA.
W/out football, we’ll never get out of the A-14.

The A-14 will become the A-10 again when the new Big East takes Dayton, Xavier, St. Louis, and St. Joe’s.
They will never take St. Joe’s. They have a great coach, but they play in a HS gym and they are in the same market as Nova. They’d be more likely to take us, trust me.
