Billy Packer.

Packer?

I’ll learn not to question Powerbait.

Bones was the coach that game. PBs right.
He said Bones told them before the game the refs were going to be home cooking so Bones told Packer to hold the ball at half court and make Dayton come out of the zone and if they didn’t the ref would have to call a Tech. Well Dayton wouldn’t come out of the Zone and the ref wouldn’t call a tech so Packer just stood there. That’s what got the fans throwing things. Packer said at halftime they were down 25 and the flyer fans were still cussing them. Bones finally sent the entire bench to the showers and finished the game with the 5 on the floor until one guy fouled out with a few minutes to play.

You’re still my favorite poster.

One great thing about being ignorant is that I learn so much.

clt was there too.
For some reason I was Listening to Packers show and Billy called in. He told a story about when he played for NC State and went to Dayton to play. It was a crazy story but pretty much about it being a hard place to play even back then. Having stuff threw at them then getting escorted out by cops.

Billy was giving Packer hell for not giving Lutz squad more airtime. He also said the ACC was no match for the A-10 this season and not to many ACCers would have our record in A10.
I do listen to Packers show on the way home since its the olny sports talk I can get besides the Tim Brando Show. And I think he gets a bad rap on here for no reason. I have never heard him talk down or say something untrue about Lutz or the program. Now obviously QCB and his guests are another story. Packers show is the generic local show. Its completly driven by callers, if Charlotter 49er fans called in for an hour, then thats what they talk about. But since its panther fans, cowboy fans, UNCCH and Duke fans that mostly call in, thats what they talk about. He never goes a segment unless interviewing someone without taking a call, and anyone can call in and they will jump from Cubs talk, to panthers, to Clemson football in a span of a few minutes.

But the other downside is the general IQ of a caller is verrrrrry low, and almost never a grad of the school, which is whats most loacal sports talk shows are like. So until we get another radio station, we are kind of stuck.

There is a new sports radio show in Charlotte called Sports Yapp. It just started up last Monday. A kid I went to high school with runs it. He was the play by play guy for App football and men’s basketball and also ran a show called Sports Yapp on App’s radio station while he was a student. It’s on Mondays-Friday’s 9-11AM on 1150AM and 1410 AM.

I’m sure he’s looking to build a following and would love callers to talk about anything.

That’s why I said shtick. Unfortunately for Packer I guess, QCB and the other cohosts are the show too. So whether Packer actually says anything himself, makes no difference to me. I can’t think of another show where the talent belittles a program just for the sake of belittling.

Again, since it is a caller driven show, the callers are part of the show. I can’t take 4 hours of “Duke sucks, no UNC-CH sucks, no Duke sucks”. Although Packer may not being saying that himself, he can control it.

Sirius XM.

I understand the whole Wal-Mart fan thing but people who don’t go to college can have a favorite team, right? The reason we cannot get WM fans is because we NEVER play on TV, don’t have football, etc.

We NEED some WM fans I think. If our alumni won’t fill Halton or Stadium to be Named Later we must attract new fans who have no affiliation with the school.

I have a good friend who graduated about the same time I did. At a Super Bowl party last week I asked him if he knew about our BBall team. He had no idea how we were doing. We need to find ways to excite the Charlotte community and continue to put our programs in their eye whether it is TV, Packer’s show, or WM.

If the Athletic Dept. won’t do it (i.e. football) we have do to something like calling in…

i think packer’s show is pretty good for the most part. he’s a big fan of Lutz and usually doesn’t knock the niners.

If you don’t want to hear the unc ch and duke arguments turn it off or better yet move away from the carolinas because that argument, rivalry will never go away. it will always dominate sports talk in nc.

glad to hear billy is giving props to the niners and the A10, they deserve it.

My guess is the difference in opinion is in part due to the amount of time one has listened to Packers show. Those who think it’s not bad to support his show perhaps have only been listening to it for a couple of years. Those who have been around 10, 15, 20 years have already given him the benefit of the doubt and are done.

I don’t discourage you from listening to it or calling in. I agree it can be good for the program. It’s just a fight I no longer wish take part of. Good luck!

Did you miss where I said I switched to Sirius XM? Interesting to hear UNC/Duke talk doesn’t bother you.

now that is funny stuff right there…wow

Did no one see my recent post about wfnz’s abysmal listener ratings? That station is one of the lowest in listeners he Charlotte region. So, no one’s really listening anyway regardless if they talk about us or not.

If we were talking about a station with low ratings in Bismark North Dakota I would agree with you. Low ratings in Charlotte still mean that a lot of people are listening, and it’s not exactly like we are selling out every game. I will take any coverage we can get.

C’MON MAN.

FNZ has some of the top rated sports talk programs in all of Charlotte.

Yep. Nor argument from me.

in Charlotte, this is true. However, it doesn’t have to be. FNZ stereotypes all sports fans as uneducated dumbasses. Throughout my life, I have heard intelligent local sports talk shows. For whatever reason, Charlotte radio chooses not to provide this feature. Therefore, I choose not to participate in FNZ’s crap.

clt says the unc-ch duke “rivalry” is not that old and isn’t predetermined to last forever.

i used to listen and even call in years ago. mark used to always put us down with cheap shot after cheap shot. i’m glad to hear things have gotten a little better.
