Brett Jolly - 2014 verbal to Saint Louis

6’10 C out of Carroll, Texas, was offered by the staff today. He also has the option to go the Blair Academy for a year of prep. Labeled as “highly skilled” and has interest from TX A&M, Purdue, Iowa, TCU and Texas Tech.

Well we should be able to offer him more playtime than most I would think.

Not a great athlete, however he moves pretty well. Nice looking jumper and can hit the 3. Loves to take charges.

exactly. how many minutes would you realistically see this dude getting next season? the biggest question is can he rebound at this level. if clayton or thorne are in foul trouble, can he give us quality minutes? i’m going to say it and i know it is not the polite thing to say but this is the type of kid you take for a need and eventually recruit over if he doesn’t work out. that’s harsh but the cold reality of division one athletics at this level.

I’m just glad to see another “2013” recruit pop up… everyone knows we need a frontcourt player bad!!

Agreed EE. Just happy to see a big.

his twitter say committed to blair prep academy. i wonder if that was from before his offer from us. how much could this kid realistically blow up after a year at prep school.

Just thankful we have not given up searching for a 2013 big. Hopefully we find one that can walk and chew gum at the same time. Way late in the game, though.

are we actively recruiting any walk ons? i’m sure we can go grab a divison two level kid with some size to walk on.

I don’t think we could sell him on minutes, our front court line-up could play forty-minutes as it stands right now, we just need some assurance behind them on the bench for when fouls rack up.

We essentially played with three bigs for most of last season, Jolly’s minutes would probably be similar to Thorne’s last season, unless of emergency.

It’s nice to see us expanding our footprint, Jolly could become pretty talented practicing against Clayton and Thorne on a daily basis. Hope we get him.

Put me in that bucket too. There is no way another frontcourt player could hurt.

Evaluation: Jolly has to be one of the top unsigned seniors in the country for his size. What’s not to like about a 6’10 skilled C/PF that has a multiple of offensive skill sets? Jolly has a nice jump hook shot in the paint and has a rather quick, but soft touch from within 15 feet out

I’d take this guy in a heartbeat. Hope he signs on.

Lets get him. 6’10 and a nice hook is great. We’ll take him!!

It’s early here…I read this as “if he has a heartbeat hope he signs on.” Had to read it twice.

I might be inclined to agree with that statement.

Not the greatest athlete in the world but looks like he has decent skillset for a big guy. Would be a good add to develop but not sure that he’d provide much for us next year.

Clayton is Clayton, and will probably play more minutes if healthy. But Blakely is a true freshman that may not be ready for bigtime minutes (like Clark and Clayton were). It’s possible a 3-man rotation could work, but at least two of the guys need to be ready to play minutes up to the level of Bras and Clayton last year. I think Jolly could be a part of that if he came to Charlotte, whether he’s ready for it or not.

A 6’10" guy with those kinds of offensive skills would be good. He might develop the strength and agility he needs to be a force down low, and he may not. But he could probably at least help either way. I think he’d be a good add if decided to come to Charlotte.

He puts the ball on the floor really well for a 6’10 guy.

If he is half the player Marshall Guilimette is, then I think we can win it all.
