But who was the one coach who was on staff and a huge part in getting us to all those NCAAs, since those are now being used against him??? As if he somehow was suddenly incapable of getting us back.
You know as well as I do - this is a what have you done lately career. 5 years without an NCAA appearance gets you fired at a lot of places that expect that, regardless of how many you had gone to previously. At that point that was our expectation and then consider that we had only made the NIT twice in that 5 yr window with two seasons of losing records. Just trending the wrong way at that point. I think he deserved one more year but I also see the metric reason why we moved on.
Well, we will have to continue to disagree on this.
All I know is Hill has to be smart enough to know college sports are now all about the Benjaminās and if this program continues in this direction he will lose support from fans by attendance and donations and the Mules will see it as a losing proposition as well.
Bring no baseball !
Bobbyās too busy fixing the world with his fiery attitude to coach Niner basketball (from what NN.N has told me).
But itās not like Healyās passion, Healyās passion is fake because the only person who can be passionate and real is Lutz.
Isnāt it true that Lutz was told by CHP and JR to change his sideline coaching style and to tane down his passion although he was winning, CHP did not like Bobbyās passion on the sideline. That was one of Lutz keys to success. Would Duke have ever thought about changing coach Kās style?
Were there other factors like conference alignment partly responsible for our record during his last 5 years? If not, why are we moving to the AAC? Conference affiliation matters.
Wasnāt Lutz directly responsible for creating the standard in which he was measured against; consistent trips to the NCAA. No other Charlotte coach had as much consistent success and trips to the NCAA, before or after.
We have an answer before us and I keep hearing people say, āthere is bound to be someone else.ā
UNC and others like to hire within the family when they can for a reason. We may have an opportunity to do that here, again, and bring back a winning culture to our program.
If a coach goes 19-12 5 years in a row and not going to ncaa tournament I hope he is absolutely fired. A lot has to do with that SOS too and if heās making the tourney. But if you arenāt advancing/improving/making tournaments⦠whatās the point?
This topic is as nonsensical as people chirping Charlotte go after Coach K. Give it up, have a take and donāt suck (apologies to Jim Rome)
Lutz is a retread. We donāt need a retread, we need a coach that can recruit, deliver wins and inspire the fan base from day one. It is so depressing to sit in a half-full Halton and watch the roller coaster of a program we have put on the floor for over a decade!
half full sounds good right now
What coaches do we want?
Of those, who can we get?
I keep hearing there has to be better options. Sure, but K for example is not coming here to get a retirement job.
We would be relevant today had Lutz remained.
Lutz is uniquely qualified. He is family, something we hear from UNC all the time.
I think most on here would at least like to know he is in the conversation āifā a change is made.
Sanchez is far from gone like it or not.
Lol. You donāt know that. You take a valid argument or idea and then add stuff like this. Iām not sure how relevant even we were in the A10.
Once Sanchez is replaced and if itās not good ol Bobby, then you can and Iām sure will make a comparison thread. I have a feeling you are gonna talk Bobby on here for a longgggg time.
Without a doubt. Only exception would have been if he was continued to be asked to coach with his hands tied behind his back.
I do know, without question, we would have been much more successful had he remained. I also know fan experience would have been much better.
I also know had he gotten us to the Sweet 16 it would have never been enough. That would have become the standard. We would have never been satisfied.
A fan should always want more. A sweet 16 would buy Lutz several bad years following but if thereās a 5-6 yr period where he isnāt making the tournament after he made a sweet 16, you have to make a change.
I agree with you. However, I was assuming solid years and NCAA appearances would have no longer been acceptable. The target would have been moved up.
Would you bet we were better off by removing Lutz? Or, would you now bank your money on having him come back for another year following a 19 win season and lots of returning talent?
Everyone knew the move to the A10 would require a period of adjustment.
No one denies the years since Lutz was fired have been worse but thatās not the argument here. And once again, bad years after Lutz does not mean Lutz shouldnāt have been fired. You canāt run a business/AD like that where you donāt make changes attempting to be better because you fear being worse. The AD needs to make better hires.
This logical argument has no place here.
49er9erā¦you are certainly correct. There are several members on this board who have argued that Bobby āwas doneā or was ānot getting it doneā for so long, they will never admit firing him was the wrong move or that he might be one of the few out there that would be able to get us back to relevance.
Whether of not Lutz being canned was right or wrong is a moot point many years later. Hill isnāt going to rehire him.
Where did you acquire this knowledge?
I give Mike Hill a lot more credit than you do. I personally think he is a great AD. Great ADs explore all legitimate options.
Weak ADs make poor choices and rule out highly qualified candidates for silly reasons. They want to make a fresh hire, not necessarily the best hire. If Hill does not meet with Lutz I will lose all respect. Iām certain I am not the only one.
