This is truly sad.

I know the business world is political in every industry…but it is truly sad that we would hire a coach for reasons outside of his actual coaching ability.

Giving in to someone’s outside influence for the sole reason that you may be able to get other things from that person in the future (or to keep that person from pulling back support later) is an awful reason to hire a basketball coach.

This is a microcosm of the worst trait about this country as a whole…corruption.

What happened to the days when you could seriously hire the best person for the job based on their actual qualifications?!

With football on the horizon…I can understand HAVING to play the political game…but it sucks. In an effort to keep the powerful/influential happy because of our push for football we are going to take this opportunity to change and energize the basketball program and piss it away by hiring someone less than our top choice based on actual skill.

I think thats a bit idealistic only because every major hoops/football coach is highly political. The money gets behind certain candidates. I am sure 25 yrs ago somebody had a tie to Army or Bobby Knight and got K the job. Its just how it works for these gigs.

Buzz may not be the coach hired, but I think he is the leader in the clubhouse. I think he’s been an OK coach so far, but I do hold out optimism if he’s brought on here. There are so many tools in this city he never had access too at UT or App.

If Buzz has big $ supporters behind him they may be willing to step up and pay that buyout. I don’t pretend to know anything, but that may not be the case if we were to pursue someone else or even the case if we hire Buzz.

If he really is our guy, then we do not deserve to make the tournament. We do not deserve to be an upper level Atlantic 10 program. f***, if we hire Buzz Peterson, we probably should just hop down to the SoCon.

If we hire Buzz Peterson, then I’ll stop fighting to build school pride. Hell, I might as well go buy myself a Carolina hoodie and wear it all day, every day during basketball season. If the Athletic Dept. doesn’t have pride in itself, why should I have pride?

BTW, didn’t realize he was the coach at Saint Mary’s prior to Oregon. Learn something new (though not necessarily important) every day!

If you take away Kent’s 2 elite eights… that resume looks exactly like a coach we just let go.

The only time I did not buy season tickets and drive down from Hickory for the games was under Wissell. To put it mildly, I would be more upset if Judy hired Buzz Peterson than if she brought back Wissell.

why do we keep going back to Judy? She is not making this hire. Big donors + chancellor = tell AD who they want.

I bet you Judy wants no part of Buzz, but if big money tells CHP who they like, then CHP has to decide who he pisses off or not.
