Winning is what matters, not being able to mingle with some douche from Myers Park in khakis and boat shoes.

Get me a coach that can coach, recruit and win. If we wanted a wine & cheese host, I am sure we could find one with less responsibilities than the men’s basketball program.
If it was a poker game Bobby could not even ante up to play. There is CRAZY money in Charlotte. You would be amazed. One low level Investment Banker that just made partner in Charlotte makes more in 2 months than Bobby does in a year and he is probably under 35.

Here is where the problem lies. Tapping into that money!! I loved Lutz but put him in a dinner setting meeting and greeting and selling and I think he is very uncomfortable. On the golf course he is fine but it was just not in his nature. There is nothing wrong with that. It just was not his thing.

I am saying all things equal (winning, recruiting, etc.) you have to push Buzz up the ladder. I also want a BB coach not an exclusive fund raiser but Charlotte needs both.

The recuiting thing is a little funny to me because who did most of our recruting Lutz or Moxely? Whoever comes in must bring in assistants that can get it done. If we sign a great Coach and have sh*t asistants then we are worse off than we already are. New Coach needs a hungry Orlando Early, Butch P. on staff. I think that is as important as anything.
I’ll say it again, people overstate the amount of $$$ some UNC-CH alums are going to throw at our athletic program, especially basketball. Our focus should not be UNC-CH money, it should be hiring a coach that can win, recruit and energize the program.
We are looking at both.

I hated Buzz when he played for Chapel Hill and I am card carrying ABCer from before you were a twinkle in your daddy’s eye but I do not fight the 900 pound gorilla if I can make friends with him to better my cause and eat his banannas later.

As far as a Coach I think Buzz is o’kay and a little better than average and I do not even know that I want him as the hire. I am just trying to show where Charlotte BB and its search is and why he is being considered.

Take out Buzz and insert another name and the dynamic stays the same.

As far as over stating the importance of Chapel Hill money. Who was OUR ALUMNI Center named after and look at their family tree and get back to me on that.

I would love for it to be different but it is not and whoever ends up here hopefully can change the dynamic but I have no problem hitting up the old rich uncle till we can stand on our own. You just need to play the game very carefully.

There’s the difference though. I’m not sure all things are equal. Buzz might be a plus in fund raising. But some of the other guys may be more of a plus in coaching. They’d have to pick between the 2 options.

Everyone here knows Buzz lives in Charlotte, but did any of you know he actually only lives 2-3 miles from the university? I bet he’d welcome that commute over the commute he made to Boone every day.

I’d also prefer to bang super models instead of average girls.

It’s pretty fun.

Haha, not well enough to get a job I don’t really deserve.

If he strokes a 10 million dollar check towards football I’ll support Buzz.

What would the buyout from App St. be?

He has 4 years at 178,000 so 712000

One of the richest men in Charlotte…chairs our football funding drive, Mac Everett/Wachovia assoc, pretty much big the Man at Qauil Hollow, UNC alum, developed much of Southpark and Balantyne

YOU DO WHAT HE SAYS pretty much if you want his support

It is a done deal
It is a done deal
I hope you’re wrong.

Agreed. It would mean we are throwing our basketball program away for the sake of $$$.

This is truly sad.

I know the business world is political in every industry…but it is truly sad that we would hire a coach for reasons outside of his actual coaching ability.

Giving in to someone’s outside influence for the sole reason that you may be able to get other things from that person in the future (or to keep that person from pulling back support later) is an awful reason to hire a basketball coach.

This is a microcosm of the worst trait about this country as a whole…corruption.

What happened to the days when you could seriously hire the best person for the job based on their actual qualifications?!

With football on the horizon…I can understand HAVING to play the political game…but it sucks. In an effort to keep the powerful/influential happy because of our push for football we are going to take this opportunity to change and energize the basketball program and piss it away by hiring someone less than our top choice based on actual skill.

Frustrating.

I love America!!
