Campus Construction Update

Appears to just be in Document Properties. Probably an old recycled power point template. No one ever changes those things. But you are a professional company. Should have caught it.

Update on the recreation center. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwrQw9qVTJg

Nothing specific, just general commentary from planning and development director for U City Partners about what future of U City could (should?) be.

For the sake of future Niners I hope it leads to at least somewhat of a college town feel. We’ll never be like a Clemson or Ann Arbor but we can have the area be a bit more college friendly in terms of what is available.

Looks like a good deal.

Exciting. Whether you like the architectural style of our new buildings or not (I do), it will be interesting to see how it might translate to a tall (maybe 10 story) building. I suppose the Dalton Library might be a good indicator, but re-skinning an existing building gives you less options than designing one from scratch. I like the idea of having an extremely visible representation of our campus right next to the Light Rail station, and so I want it to look like our campus.

I assume some Appys will be here soon to tell us that we will never fill it, and that they have a LaQuinta Inn near campus that is much nicer because it has a free breakfast buffet. And if they need more rooms when Michigan comes to play them in Kidd Brewer Stadium maybe the Wolverines can just stay in our hotel since they have to fly into our airport anyway.

As a national research university, this opens the door for large scale conferences on campus. Not sure graduates of a regional liberal arts university would know much about that.

Hopefully this new hotel will have decent branding on it instead of the mess they put on the JW Clay pedestrian bridge that combines our logo with “University City” and UCP logo that nobody can see.

So who gets the revenue university or Marriott, split?

Wonder if athletics will get comp rooms like Hilton does now?

This is good about time!

clt says the u will pay a fee for the Marriott flag and being involved with the rewards program.

I wonder if this is part of Hill’s “improving the gameday experience”? They’ve added color-coded signs to West Deck to indicate the level you’re parked on as well as wayfinding signs like this:

If nothing else it is, at least, helpful to people trying to find their way around the deck. I even sometimes get a little confused.

clt blames millenials. Just remember where you parked like we did in the 60s.

Craver Rd has been closed right at the Cameron Building to begin work on the new science building I was told.

Correct, they’re installing utility lines. Going to be closed Monday, May 14, 2018 beginning at 2:30 AM through Friday, May 25, 2018 at 6:00 PM.

Weather delays pushing road closure to mid-June.

Spending $3M on design and renovation of facilities for swim team in Belk Gym. Design due September 2018, construction bids opened October 2019 (? there’s a typo).

I would have preferred seeing it not so close to the right field line fence. Looks like you would have a hard time walking between the fence and the new building. But they didn’t ask me.
