Please use this thread to express your utter disgust with the individual wearing a gray UNC-CH hoodie over his GREEN (white out, mind you) shirt to the game last night.
My rant:
You were first in line for door 3. I understand that lots of students go to games, but I would assume that since you are wearing a Carolina hoodie, not a hat, not anything small, but a ****ing hoodie, that this is probably your first or second game, and you are only there because somebody said “hey dude, it’s a big game, you should probably go check that out.” Yes, we want to hear your voice along with the other 3,000+ students that go to games, but leave your non-Niner gear at home. And by home, I mean in the trash can at your parents’s house. That shouldn’t even be in your college home.
You had matching, Carolina blue earbuds for your iPod. You probably have a UNC sticker on it. You are in college. Grow up, the time to chose has come. If you chose Charlotte, stay hear, and show it. If you can’t part with your old ways, then transfer the hell out.
Yes, I am an Alabama football fan. But I know who my school is. I have Bama gear, and guess what? It’s at my parents’ house. I wear it on game Saturdays, and only on game Saturdays, because I don’t ever have to worry about Charlotte competing with Bama. The day that Charlotte begins playing FBS football, all my Bama gear goes in the trash can at my parents’ house.
I hope I live long enough to see a majority of the students care about their school (and my alma mater) even half as much as the students on this site.
Given instances like you describe here, I really don’t expect things to change in my lifetime…and in case anyone is interested, I think that sucks.
I saw a good share of baby blue last night on the other side, but it’s hard to get mad at them. At least they showed up. It better than the 1500+ no shows from last night. I get pissed when I see it, but then I see all the empty seats. We should all encourage these folks to come back and wear green next time.
IMO, its all a function of the same _ _ _ damn problem.
Too many people (students/alumni/general public/casual sports fans/hard core sports fans/print media/radio&TV media) in Charlotte don’t give a rats ass that Halton Arena even exists. Much less care about what the might go on inside of it.
Will football fix it? it will help, but its not enough.
Will a name change fix it? it would do a little bit more, but again its not enough.
SOMEONE needs to step outside of the damn box this school has operated in for too damn long and be, not only creative (football and name change are NOT creative), but relentless and aggressive in shoving this school down some people’s asses. Don’t stop until they agree to support (not only $$$$, but in person) the school.
Bring in some new blood or this program will die.
sorry, if this seems like ranting…but I’m damn sick of being an alum of _ _ _ damn groundhog day University.
When I looked over and seen him in his seat behind the basket, it took every bit of self control I had to not go over and knock his head off. I cant believe the nerve of some people
Someone pointed him out to me, but I was too focused on the AWESOME TOPPERS pizza that was being handed around. Then the second course was served by CICI’s!!!
Kudos to those great pizza companies for bringing out pizza, show em some love NNN.
Btw, next time, ifyou see the UNC-CH stuff, just band together a few people and start chanting or booing and make that dude feel miserable. People will join, because we as humans enjoy other peoples misery!!!
At the temple game, I went in the upper level and stood the whole game with the students. I overheard some students behind me complaining about their friend who is also a student AT CHARLOTTE who wouldn’t come to the game bc Duke was playing on tv. I turned around and joined in the conversation. I told them to pass a message from one of the many alumni who go to every game we can for him to just go ahead and take all his tuition money, and donate it to Duke if that is who you are going to support. They laughed and said they’d tell him, so I thought maybe these were true Niners. The conversation continued, and one of them said to me, “I don’t understand him, at least I go to the games, I am a Wake fan so I was torn during the Wake game and didn’t know who to root for, but at least I go to the games.” I told him thanks for coming to the games, but you’re part of the problem. I turned away and didn’t talk to them again. People just don’t get it.

The problem is with JOs like this kid wearing the UNC-CH stuff at a Charlotte bball game, they will just say crap like Tar Heels are #1 or they are the best or Charlotte sucks, they can’t even win the A10, etc…
It might be best to just ignore them and throw them in a ditch later…did I just type that?

I’m with you man. It’s like trying to force people to take pride in themselves and their school.
I’ve started early. My cousin will be coming to Charlotte next year, so I sent him a bunch of 9ers stuff (t-shirt, program, magnet schedule) and he’s excited about it. He wants to come to a game this year. I’m working on him pretty hard. So hopefully, he gets it, then he influences his roomates, etc. etc.
I think the school should pound this idea into incoming student’s heads. You are a Niner now!!! Take pride in yourself!!!
Number 1: I want to give props to the Charlotte coaching staff. One of our assistant coaches (the one that isnt kummer cheeks or moxely) walked over to the stands behind the basket near our bench and got a kid to take his carolina hoodie off. I was proud.
Number 2: At SOAR we should REALLY PUSH not bringing other schools grear. I know everyone says “its different for football”, but for the incoming freshmen we should push ALL OF IT AWAY, even football. My reasoning is because A. It gives them the impression that when they step foot on this campus in August, they are expected by the student body not to wear any other schools crap and B. if they are told they shouldnt wear other gear even if it is football then they are less likely to bring it.
Number 3: Someone needs to make a list or something describing all of the reasons that of all schools, Carolina should be the last one you should ever pull for. I’m not talking about all the cliche “they wont play us” or “they get too much stuff from our own cities media” - but get into the politics of it all… talk about how Erskine gave us 60 mil one year, then gave carolina a combined 198 mil over 2 years and told us that “we got ours last year”. Tell them about how rumors had begun circulating about the possibility of a medical school and shortly there after Carolina started talking about putting a satellite campus of their med school in Charlotte, ultimately screwing us out of a potential medical program. When people realize that your not just saying dont wear carolina because you like duke, or because you just hate them for some stupid reason, and they realize you have a TON of legitamacy behind it, they will likely change their minds.
WE HAVE TO MAKE THEM REALIZE THAT IT HAS MORE EFFECT ON THEM THAN JUST SPORTS.

I’m ALL IN for this. I just think we need to make a strong point that the main reason to not wear other school’s gear is bc we need to build a base of people who, when someone asks who you root for in college sports, people won’t be surprised when you say Charlotte. When people ask me my team, they sometimes respond with, ok, well who do you root for in the ACC. They get so shocked when I honestly say, I don’t care about the ACC.
Take a picture of the moron at the game with your phone, post it in a stickied “Hall of Shame” thread with their name and where they live on campus, and mock them until they change their heathen ways.
I hate to quote myself but i thank this comment belongs on this tread instead of the one i left it on earlier today.
It was a tough but good game. It showed we can play with anybody in the league.
But the think that pisses me off is charlottes suit case students. How do you have such a poor turn out for the number 13th ranked team in the nation?
I am an alumni living in Clemson know and you really get an appreciation of how proud students from other colleges are of there teams when you start a job fresh out of school and meet a lot of other fresh graduates from different schools.
I got off work yesterday drove the two hours to the charlotte for the game and then turned around and drove back to Clemson so I could get up at 5 and go to work.
So I parked on the other side of campus from the arena so I could walk across campus and take in the scenery and its about 10 min to game time and I see a guy wearing a Niner Nation t-shirt walking away from the arena back toward the parking deck I just came from and I really wonted to tell him he was a disgrace to Niner Nation and get his a@# to the game. But I restrained myself.
Maybe I am being to harsh but how do you attend a school and not take pride in it?
Thanks for making the trip up. Do you come to many games?
This doesn’t exist anymore. Really.

How do you know he wasn’t moving his car or something? He actually had a Niner Nation shirt on! That is a big plus with some of the crap students wear on campus. At least he was showing pride visually. No need to ream him when you don’t know his situation.
