Get ready to be tortured!
This playoff game vs the rams will be on Saturday January 10. What an emotional coincidence for me. For in the very early hours of Saturday January 10, 2004, my 82nd Airborne paratrooper hero dad passed from this earth forever.
I had plans that day. Big sports plans which included heading to Halton Arena to watch the Panthers take on the rams in a playoff game on a big screen tv set up for 49er Club members prior to our home men’s basketball game with ezu. Also prior to that game, alum Clay Aiken was to sing the National Anthem and perform at halftime.
What a whirlwind of emotions for me that day. A little confusion too about what all I should and maybe shouldn’t do. But after some quiet reflection, I did what I know my dad would have wanted me to do.
I helped my mom and sister do everything I could in the hours after my dad’s passing regarding an upcoming funeral. Then I later I also did what I knew my huge sports fan dad would want to do himself and I know he wanted me to do the same.
That afternoon I went to Halton Arena and watched our Panthers beat the rams on tv in double OT on probably the most famous and beloved play ever, X-Clown.
Afterwards, or kinda during the Panthers game, I watched Clay Aiken sing the national anthem and then watched our NINERS whip ezu.
What a day I’ll never forget for sad and also happy and uplifting reasons.
I know my dad would have enjoyed the happy moments of that day as well.
RIP, dad. And KEEP POUNDING, PANTHERS!!
