Here is an example of why drafting a young QB to be your starter is worthwhile almost every season until you succeed. Trubisky’s base salary for 2023 is $8 million. He trash, a joke Tarhole who wasn’t good enough to keep a rookie QB from taking his starting job. Otherwise, he’s a bargain. That QB, Kenny Pickett, is still on his rookie deal. His salary-cap hit for 2023 is $3.2 million. It will stay low for a few more years. You can sign help with the savings.
Sign a starter veteran QB for what $30 million? $50 million? It’s eventually leaves a team broke and talent deprived. Green Bay did the right thing letting Favre go, but the wrong thing giving Rogers all that cash. I am really going to enjoy watching the Browns morph quickly into a 3rd world football team.
The Eagles are sitting tight and pretty set. Look out if you are thinking of betting against
3-4 is merely the base defense, doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be in their base defense most of the time they’re on the field. The thing about Evero is that he will adjust his scheme to the personnel he has. The personnel the Panthers have on defense actually fits a 3-4 a little better, they’ll need to shore up the line and get a 3-tech DL, don’t really think that fits Brown.
Evero is a disciple of Dom Capers, Vic Fangio. He understands the new passing NFL. He will base off 3-4 and come after the QB like no other DC we have ever had. He believes in bringing numbers for pressure and if 4 does not work, then bring 5, if that does not work bring 6 etc. DBs can only stay with receivers for short periods of time because of new rules for offense so get after the QB to negate that.
That’s all great but we better train our front 7 to tackle without hitting the head or throwing the QB to the ground, the rules also protect the QB way to much, a few 15 yard penalties were head scratchers last year.
I’d be ecstatic if we get him in the second round and take another star Defensive line man with the 9th pick, I guess in a few weeks we will see what they decide to do with Darnold when free agency starts, that should tell us a lot on how they are going to draft.
It hasn’t worked because we had a coaching staff that didn’t know what they were doing the last 2 and half years. Even if we draft someone it take years for them to be a franchise level QB that can win, Hurts is in his 3rd year and the Bears QB, which many wanted us to take still looks lost after 2.
Nothing is a sure thing in the NFL, there is to much parity.
If they can get Carr for around the same as they were paying Sam it would be worthwhile. But if it’s going to cost $30 million or some crazy amount then I wouldn’t do it. Get him for less than $20 million a year, draft an edge rusher/defensive end in the first & get Hooker in the second. That would be alright with me. But Carr may cost a lot more than that.
