CBS Parish Pick 3 Bids for A-10

I was under the assumption that (he means, Parrish) these are bids the conference will get after conference play is all over with, not how it would be if it were to occur right now.

Actually, it is the latter. He updates it on a weekly basis and in his first one, the A-10 only had one team in the field - Xavier. So it can change from week to week.

Ok, well that makes sense.
Thanks, didnā€™t know about the one team.

And my point is, itā€™s all a guess at this point. A10 could get four, could get one. Wonā€™t be clear until March 11.

I think the A-10 will get 2 but Iā€™m thinking itā€™s only going to be one unless there is an upset in the tourneyā€¦

I know it is early, but 14th? That is pathetic. We have 2 teams that are higher than 320
Brief Hijack

From your link:

1 Atlantic Coast Conference 91-25 .784
2 Pac 10 Conference 81-19 .810
3 Southeastern Conference 98-27 .784
4 Missouri Valley Conference 64-23 .736
5 Big Ten Conference 93-32 .744
6 Mountain West Conference 65-25 .722
7 Big East Conference 119-39 .753
8 Big XII Conference 87-34 .719
9 West Coast Conference 38-51 .427
10 Conference USA 55-40 .579
11 Western Athletic Conference 47-42 .528
12 Horizon League 34-49 .410
13 Patriot League 41-37 .526
14 Atlantic 10 Conference 79-54 .594
15 Southern Conference 26-52 .333
16 Colonial Athletic Association 48-51 .485
17 Mid American Conference 51-60 .459
18 Big West Conference 32-39 .451
19 Ivy League 36-41 .468
20 Sun Belt Conference 43-72 .374

Itā€™s too early for RPI, but the link you posted gives an indication of which direction the conferences will move once conference play begins. Obviously, winning % is key - if each team plays 16 games against opponents with an average winning % of 0.600, the overall RPI will go up, but if each team plays 16 games against opponents with an average winning % of 0.400, the overall RPI will sink. For example, teams from the Horizon with a really high RPI currently are going to sink like a stone once league play begins.

Listing conferences by winning percentage makes a pretty good final predictor:

 1. Pac 10 .810
 2. ACC .784
 3. SEC .784
 4. Big East .753
 5. Big 10 .744
 6. MVC .736
 7. MWC .722
 8. Big 12 .719
 9. A-10 .594
 10. C-USA .579
 11. WAC .528
 12. Patriot .526
 13. Colonial .485
 14. Ivy .468
 15. Mid-American .459
 16. Big West .451
 17. WCC .427
 18. Horizon .410
 19. Sun Belt .374
 20. Southern .333

The A-10 has underachieved with a 0.594 winning percentage - which will allow the conference to move TOWARD 9th (the A-10 is 14th currently, but they wonā€™t finish the season there). As you can see, the problem is the HUGE gap between the Big 12 and the A-10. But that should be the story this year - the MVC and MWC have done great and should be rewarded at the end of the year - in fact, conferences 1-8 are all solid.

Then thereā€™s a big dropoff to the rest of the NCAA. The A-10 overall has a bunch of high profile games coming up soon, so the conference controls its own fate. With just a few upsets, the A-10 should distance itself from C-USA and the rest of the pack to finish 9th, IMO.

ā€œWe have 2 teams that are higher than 320.ā€

God, yes. The Bonnies are killinā€™ the league this year. I mean, weā€™re talking history-making bad. Iā€™ll give them credit for one thing - they scheduled bum (and I mean BUM) teams this year, so they were able to squeeze out a few wins. At least they didnā€™t go for ā€˜money gamesā€™ and get annihilated on the road each week to put a big goose egg in their win column at the expense of the rest of the conference. Every little bit helps - and the Bonnies have contributed VERY little.

But yeah, I would seriously consider swapping the Bonnieā€™s for Winston Salem State or NJIT right about now. We must keep them in the league to maintain ties to the recruiting hub of Olean, NY

End of hijack

Okay, letā€™s go back to rippinā€™ on Mike P.

EDIT: I overlooked somethingā€¦ Conference-watchers like myself see that the main competition for 9th place will very likely be C-USA. Tacking on a win tonight for the A-10 and tacking on a loss for Houston and C-USA will help the A-10ā€™s situation a little bit.

Excellent post survivor. Thanks for the analysis.
Iā€™m on record as saying the RPI now means squat. Ask NA.
Then, why did you post this in response to the A-10 gewtting 3 or 4 teams in and hijack the thread?
Only one A10 team in todayā€™s Top 64, X at 45, and the leagueā€™s getting 3-4 bids? Does that make sense to anyone?
