I just finished reading “The Making of a Research University”, the story of Jim Woodward’s Chancellorship. I didn’t enjoy the writing as much as the Ken Sanford’s book on the founding of our University, but it is an interesting look at what may be the most important years since we joined the UNC System in 1965. I certainly recommend it if you want to know how we surpassed our sister schools to become one of four Doctoral Research Universities in NC.

The 1990 mandate to not Coach & be AD, wasn’t from the AD, but from the UNC School System. You can tell this was written by a millenial who doesn’t do investigative research.
The University sent it to me. I assumed it was available. Check the bookstore, I bet they have it.

I made some inquiries last night and found out the university doesn’t sell the book. However, I was able to acquire a copy, so if somebody wants to read it, I’m willing to loan it out during football season, just promise to return it by the next game.
