Hockey Doubleheader

Charlotte Checkers vs. Gwinnett Gladiators

UNC Charlotte 49ers vs. Johnson & Wales

Friday, January 16, 7:00PM

Time Warner Cable Arena

Each year, the 49ers play a game after the Checkers as a fundraiser

This year we play Johnson & Wales, a brand new team

The 49ers sell Attack Zone ticket at a discount rate of $15

The Checkers give $6 back to our team for each ticket sold

As a club sport with limited funding, this is a big event for our team

As a club sport they do not fall under the official Charlotte banner that our athletic department does, at least that is my guess.

I got this in an email at work and just wanted to share it.

I would like to! I had no idea we even had a club team and I always enjoy checkers games so I think the wife and I are in.

Yep. Club sports are recognized as UNCC or UNC Charlotte. I had a slight push in the club lacrosse community to be called “Charlotte”. Very few people followed suit, but I got our name changed on the biggest club lacrosse website in country, www.collegelax.us

If it is UNC Charlotte, then it should not be followed by ‘49ers’.

Huh? We are all 49ers athletically or academically. Only the AD has the approval to be referred to as just Charlotte. Everything else connected to the school is UNC Charlotte.

How could we forget the team with the sweetest jerseys? You guys could probably raise more funds next time by selling some of those each year.

Cool. I’ll have to go. If I can’t get off early, I can still see the Niners.
I went to 1 game last year in Indian Trail, & we got whupped by Loyola, Md. We should have known not to play someone from a state that actually has winter.
The Checkers should let the Niners play after their games more often that once a season. I doubt it costs them extra.

Considering its not an official Niner Sport, highly unlikely.

Word of mouth is really the only way to promote club sports. It sucks, but thats how it is.

Speaking from my experience with lax: We’ve tried. We get love from virtually no one on campus.
