Charlotte 49ers Athletic Facilities Master Plan discussion

That is a big 12 bid in action.

That’s what we are up against.

I hope all this waiting results in an equally grand gesture.

Otherwise, we just aren’t serious.

The next realignment is going to be interesting to see if some P5 schools move down a little with no being able to compete with the play for pay model or alumni gets tired and believe their school should focus a little less on athletics such as Duke, Wake, Vandy, etc.

If you are suggesting that some P5 schools will move down to G5, it ain’t happening - no way, no how. Furthermore, the pay for play (NIL) will make very little difference in the pecking order compared to what it is right now.

Move down - i agree. More likely is that the top schools move into something new.

Never

The plan has been completed and I believe many have viewed it in detail. I have not been privy to it but I believe it will come out in the near future. I also believe the powers to be in the AAC have seen it. They are/were well aware of the size of our stadium. I am sure we had to address it prior to our acceptance into the conference. At least, birdies tell me so.

We need to win our games, build the buzz, and get our fan base in the seats. The rest will take care of itself. Winning cures all ills.

They would never move down to G5 agree. If they moved down it would be to pull a U of Chicago and drop out of the rat race completely. D3 or club sports only.

Highly unlikely I know, cause alumni would be pissed, most likely. Unless there was some move into a new IVY type conference of like minded institutions. A conference of “name” elite institutions that would help reduce the sting of no longer playing at the highest level.

Depends on the size of the division. If a new division has 80ish teams and we are left out, I might be inclined to say drop sports. I really don’t have much interest in competing in DII in that scenario.

I’ll still go watch the games no matter what level we are at. To ingrained at this point.

I agree. This is my school, and no matter what happens I will still cheer them on.

I’ll cheer the team no matter. I’ll be a fan no matter what.

My level of support may shift based in the state of college athletics though.

I’m not saying I will cheer against the team. Rather my interest level will dwindle. I just don’t care if we’re beating other schools like USC Upstate, UMBC, Samford, etc.

As far as football goes we will be left out with the same group of schools we are already in a conference and associated with. So nothing will really change except maybe playing some of those early season games against the P5 level schools. Basketball is what really worries me. If there is a breakaway that blows up the NCAA tournament that will be sad.

They pretend to be an athletic department and we pretend to be fans.

All this anger and posting shows that we still do really care.

Perhaps the WLAX announcement is another step forward. They have to address facilities for the program soon.

Do they? They could just say “we’re still looking into it.”

But we still have the opportunity to play the other conferences in OOC games and bowl games. We also have the potential of possibly moving to the other conferences if we do well. So for me there is some hope. A new division elements that hope in my mind. You won’t have a chance of playing those other conferences, of moving up or even as far fetched as it might seem, playing in the playoffs.
