Charlotte @ Duke 10/31 7PM RSN

Not sure if serious

The most disappointing thing for me is the special teams and the flags. Healy has significantly improved those areas that we had problems with under Lambert. Tonight they popped back up. That can’t happen. If Reynolds shoulder is impacting play calling this much he needs to be benched until he’s healthy. Healy has to get this back under control If that means changing staff, he needs to step up and do that.

I had UMass flashbacks with the blocked punts. You cant have that happen. It’s a game killer.

I just don’t think we have the horses yet. The great separators between g5 and p5 is line play. We started two true freshman. I didn’t think this was going to go well. It didn’t.

That’s where we have to get better and if you look at this years recruiting class, I’d say they recognize the issue.

Horses to win? Agree. Horses to compete? We shouldn’t be this far off. I agree there is a talent gap, but the staff has to clean up their part In this.

This. Healy was hired almost two years ago. We were the worst FBS football team in the state. We still are and the 2nd worst just beat us by 30.

ECU is worse than Duke. Duke isnt good but they’ve been competitive in every game. ECU is awful. Just sayin…

I’m not sure the adjectives exist to describe this game.

Duke is not a good football team, and they just played with us like we were a Pop Warner team. Can’t polish that turd no matter how much elbow grease one can muster.

Being out manned was not a shock… being absolutely out planned, and out executed was a surprise. We were ill prepared in all 3 facets of the game. I will be hard pressed to take anything positive from this game, a terribly disappointing effort.

Healy may be in his 2nd year, but I am in my 8th. I need to be happy. It would take us 14 more 7-5 seasons to get above breakeven, so I need some 8 or 9 win seasons. Not sure how far we are from one of those.

I’m tired of typing and griping about the results of this game, so this wil be my last post on this topic. The conclusion is that we played very badly that had a lot to do with the play calling. I will reserve anymore of my “sky is falling” comments until we get back into conference play; where we belong. We want to be that little P5 team that could and we simply aren’t. With the way the $$$ process works out in today’s era of college football that will always cater and favor P5 teams, I see why these games are necessary, however I have never been a fan. We need to play teams that are equal or maybe slightly better to gauge our progress to truly tell where we are and where we need to be. These types of games just tell us that we aren’t a P5 team (but I digress). I know many of us like playing games that are way above our head (in the case tonight, in my opinion, more on the coaching), but let’s figure out how to dominate teams at or around our level of play so that we can truly find out how good we are and what needs to be fixed. I now yield the floor until the next game. Raleigh Out!

The only positive is we play MTSU next and they are really bad. A chance to bounce back.

I understand that not having the horses will keep us from winning against most P5 schools but it doesn’t have to keep us from looking respectable. Lambert took a less talented Charlotte team to play a Tennessee team with more talent than Duke & the result was respectable. Not saying Lambert was better by any means. Just saying that talent level shouldn’t prevent us from being prepared to play Duke and absolutely shouldn’t be blamed for us running into a brick wall over & over again & expecting different results the next time we try.

You are new to this aren’t you. There are 20 losses worse than this one.

Ecu has two wins less than us since we came up.

They are the worst and it aint close.

There will be a lot of talk about the ineptitude of the offense but look at the defense stats so far this season. We are giving up an average of 31.6 points, 4 total sacks (we’ve been sacked 15 times) and 3 total forced fumbles (two of which were in the rain vs. App). I can’t find a stat on QB pressures but I know it isn’t good.

clt says the bad fake mask call changed the game.

The gap is big. It will get smaller but it will always be big. The system is designed for it to stay big. I don’t expect to win many of these P5 games. I do however really wish we didn’t look so unprepared and not make some of the simple mistakes we seem to make against higher competition. Is that coaching? Play calling? Execution? Overconfidence? Maybe all of the above?

Some talk about APP being near their ceiling. I wonder where our’s is. Coach talked about this game showing us ‘where we are.’ Hopefully this is not really where we are.

The sky is not falling but until you look presentable again almost every opponent you have work to do.

I have a feeling our overall conference strength might be hiding the truth of where we actually are.

Take away the two block punts and a few flags and maybe this game ends up looking more competitive. Some easy things for us to clean up it would have had us at least in the game.

When a G5 program goes up against a P5 program you have to play a nearly flawless game. As much as I hate App they know they have to play perfect, because there is a talent gap and the officials won’t do them any favors. Last night we shot our selves in the foot play after play. Either by play calling or substitutions or flags. Just painful. I understand losing because of the talent. I can’t accept losing because of things under our control.
