The most embarrassing loss of our short lived football program
Amazing stat⌠Duke scored 53 points with under 18 min of offensive possession
There is one silver lining. The announcers love our uniforms and new logo. I guess we will take any wins in a game like this.
Our next game and how we respond will tell us whether we are regressing or not.
Well that just means we need to fix our defense, offense, and special teams. No big deal.
I agree that both didnât step up, however I will give the DC the bigger benefit of the doubt. We know that their lines were going to dominate our lines, so I didnât expect us to be able to stop the run up the gap. I was hoping we would get them on the edge and down the field, however they didnât need it because of their beasts up front. The OC doesnât get the same benefit. They knew they were going to be dominated and the plays he still called, knowing that, allows me to critique him more aggressively. I know that Healy doesnât like to play speed football, but we need to be a bit quicker making and calling plays. If you are up big or playing it close, fine, dominate the clock 3:1, but this is not the game or team to do that with. We will see if this was just the reality of CLT playing a P5 team or is this a systemic problem when we go back to conference play #G5ROCKS
Thatâs a freaking head scratcher
Duke came into the game scoring 21 ppg and allowing 31 ppg. They possessed the ball for 17.5 mins, scored 53 points and allowed 19.
I will give Special Teams some credit. They realized that the line wasnât going to hold up after the second block punt and went to a more rugby style kick to allow the kicker to move away from the pressure, which took that threat away.
I have thought the defensive coordinator sucked for a long time. Offense is our only chance to win & the only way we won 7 last season. Our only chance is to outscore our opponents with our offense because the defense hasnât been good since this staff took over. We canât do that running up the middle where there is no room to run 75% of the time & at really stupid times like 3rd & long. Or going for 2 by passing to an offensive lineman on the 5 yard line. We embarrassed ourselves tonight & it wasnât because of a talent gap.
agree, mhh. our dbâs alway look lost other than deluca.
Side note: Remember to cancel AT&T Now before they charge you $80 in a week. Made that mistake with YouTube TV last season.
Gotta agree with MikeNiner11 on all counts and with MHH2006s last post.
We look poorly coached. We made stupid decisions in playcalling, and our defense looks like swiss cheese. The only thing that hurts worse than letting teams throw all over your DBs is letting teams gash you up the middle and Duke was running through truck sized holes from the get go. We get very little pressure on the QB as well.
I didnât expect to win this game but I made the foolish comment to a friend that I thought the pregame spread was reasonable. Hah. And we made it a ton worse with bad decisions (going for 2 needlessly, not punting inside our 30, etc).
Mostly though, Iâm tired of the usual suspects making excuses. Thereâs no accountability from our fanbase with this program. Sure I love Healyâs enthusiasm, PR savvy etc, but he hired his friends as coordinators and they are not impressive at all, and we have to make excuses for getting blown out by bad teams too often. The honeymoon phase is over, should have been over, a couple of years ago. Time to put up or shutup. This is about keeping fans engaged and performances like that simply do not cut it.
Yâall gotta relax man.
Wasnât a good game but we arenât regressing. Duke was better than we were.
At some point we need to take the next step. We just arenât there yet.
Here we goâŚNWA next.
Everybody stop over reacting. Bunch of stupid, Judy Rose supporters.
Culture, blah blah blah, recruiting, blah blah blah, branding, blah blah blah
I got nothing to defend this. Just unacceptable all around. I knew a loss here was more likely than not but I expected to compete. Stupid penalties, questionable play calls, and poor special teams play. Only positive I can find here is team appeared to keep playing hard through to the end.
F- and then some on grade for this game
Might wanna change that assumption.
I also donât get some of the substitutions we make. We donât allow any of our RBs to get in to rhythm, and swapping QBs with similar skills sets makes no sense either, especially as Dom only ever runs the ball.
I was so stoked about getting Romeo McKnight on the field from game 1. He made 1 play tonight but has mostly been on a milk carton. Same with Watts, when he is healthy. Tyriq Harris may be the greatest guy in the world but has he done anything this season? Aside from Ben Deluca and Tyler Murray, has anyone on our defense?
Then the one time one of interior linemen makes a play - one of the white guys⌠Wallace maybe? We yank him off the field.
And the RB rotations on offense. Does anyone understand what in the hell we are doing there? I donât get it. Someone smarter than me explain it, because I was brought up with NFL guys saying most running backs have to be fed a steady diet of carries to establish a rhythm.
And what in the hell is up with not just the play of our O line, but our schemes? How many times tonight did one of Dukes FRONT FOUR come shooting into the backfield unblocked? How does that happen? Over and over again? Reynolds was running for his life on every play. Every throw was with a Duke DL about to crush him.
There was a time tonight where we probably only lose this game like 39-21. Certainly not ideal, but the ridiculous decisions our coaching staff made exacerbated the situation. They called the game like we never had a chance, and were just trying shit to be cute. That pass to Dimitri Emmanuel on the 2 pt conversion that Duke ran back for 2? In what universe is that ever a good call? Even if he catches that, no way in hell he scores from the 5 yard line. Heâs way too slow. So many other examples.
And it does matter. More than getting blown out by Louisville or Clemson. Duke is an in state program that we expect to recruit against. How do you do that now after they beat you like you stole something? Its self perpetuating defeat to take a road loss and turn it into a full on embarrasment like we did tonight. Thatâs what really sticks in my craw.
