The limited run style of fashion marketing just seems to be part of the modern “hype”/street wear ethos that 704 Shop seems to go for.

I get the limited run where no re-orders but I would think they should order enough to not sell out in hours or even 1 day. If I would have bought 2+ shirts, how many are there like me that would have sent them orders.

Dude. Their entire business model is based on demand. They sell out of everything. Every time. On purpose. They can’t sustain lots of leftovers. It’s a small business.

Dude… and I’m giving my opinion that selling out in one hour is not good business model. For a simplistic example, is ordering 500 and selling out in 1 hour better than ordering 700 and selling out in 3 hours?

Thanks now this song is in my head haha.

Yes but you aren’t accounting for the time they make a shirt nobody likes. Which has happened. The first 49er shirt they made years ago didn’t sell worth a flip.

They are a small business, they are alums, and they have supported our athletic programs so you better believe I’m coming to bat for them.

Act quicker if you want a shirt next time.

You are defending poor ordering skills. Your argument makes no sense. That’s cool too.

You are defending bad economics.

One bad choice shouldn’t impact all of your future choices. Your argument is that they had a flop so now they only limit themselves to selling out in one hour windows and no more.

If a shirt sells out in one hour, that company left money on table. All I’m saying.

I am with @cibik02. I am big fan of running your business like you want to–succeed or fail. However, if you make $10 per shirt, and you want to make more money or grow your business, you need to sell 1000 shirts instead of 200. We aren’t talking about stocking a shirt with “2020 49ers Football” on it, logo shirts can be sold for years.

I think they normally do runs of 250ish per size (maybe a few more on the larger and less on the smaller ones)… Selling the entire lot with a known sunk cost and probable revenues on a new shirt might just be far superior to the owners than having a sunken cost on thousands of shirts, warehousing, longer runway to recouping all funds and returning a profit… It also makes getting in on day 1 less important… As I said earlier, the model seems to be working exactly the way THEY want it to work, what at the end of the day is the important part.

I understand all small business is risk management and cash flow but I have also gone to their site 4x and have yet to land a sale. I do not bother now because I know it is probably futile. I understand I might not be their market/ customer base but 4x they have left my money on the table and that seems to go against market recognition.

Don’t forget, you can generally go to their store day of and pick up shirts. They do reserve some for the actual store.

Seeing as they tend to sell out of stuff in mere hours, one would think that if they were in desperate need of boosting sales, they’d print more product when they do their runs.

No one here is saying that an owner can’t run their business the way they choose.

Your comment is like saying you should have no criticism of Charlotte 49ers AD since they are running it how THEY want it to work and at the end of the day that’s what is most important right? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Mr B says that clt might like this logo.

Sounds like you should start a t shirt business

I should open a t shirt consulting firm.
