Ok, then. I might have used “explain” rather than “spin”, which for sure has a negative connotation.
Love this hire. Let’s stop acting like we’ve done anything in college football to warrant big time coaches. You aren’t the associate head coach at Michigan for nothing. Give the guy a chance. Go Biff! Go Niners!
I don’t think we were asking for “big name coaches” nobody thought we had a chance at Urban Myer or anything crazy like that, there are still only 131 FBS head coaching jobs, do you think Skip Holtz is a “big time coach”?
I would have been thrilled with Skip for sure. I guess I just think the associate head coach title at Michigan carries weight. Looking forward to hearing his presser
This hire reminds me of the former TD Ameritrde COE turned Coastal Carolina coach.
Don’t jump to a quick conclusion. I was very oppositional to the choice at first. However, after I started digging in, I love this guy. If he is “all in” we may have found someone that can completely change the course of our program. Let’s give him a fair chance and welcome him to Charlotte. Welcome coach!
but is biff really that big of a roller though? I keep trying to look up his rumored financials and I cant really find anything really. I did think joe moglia was a great gamble for coastal because of the 500+ million he was bringing to the table that could help in a lot of other ways but I don’t see anything saying biff is anywhere near that ball park.
but if biff turns out to be a good x’s and o’s coach that can recruit then his financial backing is a moot point.
In the E:60 episode they asked him who had the better year financially, him or Jim Harbaugh ($7,000,000 salary)… Poggi said himself, easily.
i have to say… i DID NOT like this hire in the first 20 or so minutes of me first seeing the news. however, after i started doing some digging around and doing some research and seeing what Michigan fans had to say… I’m completely on board with it and i love it. it was really refreshing watching the E:60 of him just being blunt and honest about it; really shows the human side to him.
Is Biff Poggi the riskier football version of Ron Sanchez?
He has his own private jet. So there’s that.
clt says we going to get the croots
When Price was hired, thought it was a bit odd/out of the box as he had no experience. But he was available and Mullins was successful with a similar background.
This one is very out of the box as well, reminds me of when Maryland bball hired Bob Wade from Dunbar Baltimore.
Malzone and some of the Texas College coaches worked their way quickly from successful high school coaches thru the college ranks to head coaches. Most were Offensive savants /gurus in terms of backgrounds and QB developers.
Biff Poggi talking to the Detriot free press "We can build a championship program at Charlotte, and I can’t wait to get started "
“Congratulations to Mike Hill and the Charlotte 49ers for a great hire. Biff Poggi will generate excitement and success for the program. The players will love playing for him and the coaches will love working with him. Get ready to win!”
Nick Saban, University of Alabama Head Football Coach
“Biff has been a tremendous asset to our University of Michigan Football program, providing support and mentorship to our coaching staff and players. He has a great football mind, knows how to prepare a team during the week and on game day, and is a coach that aims to change the lives of his players in a positive way. Biff is a trusted agent and known friend, and I know that his leadership and ability to develop a team-first culture will be a huge asset to the Charlotte 49ers.”
Jim Harbaugh, University of Michigan Head Football Coach
Ok. I have been working all freaking day and just got to check NN.N.
Wow!!!
What a reveal. And to hear it first on NN.N is great.
I seriously felt like I was being punked.
This is either going to be the greatest hire of charlotte athletics history or it will be Hills Waterloo.
I have not watched the documentary or read any stories yet.
All I can say is that this guy seems to have swagger, connections and be well liked.
I have little doubt this man can recruit.
I agree with the other posters that the staff is key. If this gentleman starts putting together a good staff I think we may have a winner here.
Bottom line he’s the new coach and I’m behind him.
As far as what Gaber said. Maybe she said “just win baby”
The e60 episode has a picture of him standing next to his private jet. It’s quite large. You don’t buy a jet like that unless you have tens of millions to literally play with.
One thing is a certainty here. This not a hire that is made prior to Hill and Gaber. He would have been much too polarizing. The first 10 minutes in I was like wtf, but I’m all in now.
How does he have time to run a hedge fund and coach football or is he retired from running the hedge fund?
