I must say, that statement was underwhelming. I hope Mike was just being coy.
Same here. I haven’t been too down in the goal posts moving as some have said, but this is getting me to the same place. Super disappointing to hear this stance unless he is being coy until announcing something soon.
I am totally against playing games in the Panther’s Stadium or practice field. We need to keep our games at home, expansion or whatever it takes!
Pretty sure this was a covering all our bases type of thing. If they needed a guarantee he could give one. I appreciate him thinking of that contingency.
its s good thing for the school to have in their back pocket when expansion takes place. and I’m sure tepper wouldn’t mind doing it as a favor to build more good will on the off chance that we would ever have to host panthers games for them if they have to tear down panthers stadium to build a new one on the same site. like what the vikings had to do with the the university of minnesota. plus with the modifications that the school might need to do who knows if they would be allowed to have fans be there or players play while the expansion takes place. especially if they want it done as quickly as possible after the announcement takes place
I’m sure it would only be done when expansion finally starts. which I’m hoping to hear an announcement on in 4 months.
Let’s see, which one of you would I rather have running our athletic program instead of Mike Hill…Good lord man, know your place ain’t his
I can see us hosting Chapel Hill at Bank of America Stadium. That would suck!
Under no way, shape, or form would I support playing games with local P5s at BoA and especially not conference games.
I will refuse to attend.
Expand the Rich or shut down the program. Time to nut up.
My rough calculation is that expansion will cost about $2500 per seat. Let’s step up
I tell you what…you ain’t the thought police fo’ sho’
That part isn’t the concerning part to me…its the " when its time, we will raise the funds and expand" statement that sounds bad. I know this isn’t the case, but it sounds as if we have raised nothing for the expansion and have no timetable…that can’t be correct…right?..if you read the full article that is basically what he said.
Is anyone surprised there may be no serious expansion plan in place? Phil Dubois hasn’t been gone long. He is the same person that passed on the opportunity to establish a medical school with Atrium.
clt says connect the dots, Phil added light rail so we can go to bofa for the temple game
Permanent expansion may not happen in the next 2-3 years but we didn’t spend 40+ million to build a stadium in the middle of campus and then play long-term at BofA. Let’s worry about selling out what we have and if needed, temporary stands will add at least 5000 more to the capacity in the meantime.
I would rather play in a 15,000 seat ON CAMUS stadium then play at Bank of America stadium, it never has the same energy as playing on campus, it just does not seem the same, I remember when the basketball team played their marquee opponents in the spectrum center as its called now, and I personally hated it, we could seat more fans but the atmosphere was not the same, if we have to play at Bank of America stadium, it better be extremely temporary, building an on campus stadium was one of the best things that Judy Rose accomplished at UNCC, I never liked the idea of college programs playing in professional stadiums, and never will
Exactly, it is not the same atmosphere, keep it home, even if it is just temporary bleachers until we can raise the money to expand
I’m assuming renting bleachers is a bit more cheaper than renting BAC
The Panthers stadium talk is necessary for the expansion. The best way to expand would be to go all in and go big. That type of construction could cost us at least 2 years without use of the stadium. Hell, it could take longer to start and finish the expansion than it did to build what we have. The press boxes being built these days are more like luxury towers. We might have to seriously add infrastructure relatively far outside the stadium and definitely near and inside. Cranes, excavators, concrete trucks , lulls, aerial lifts, zeppelins, traffic barriers, steel plates over holes in the road, trip and fall lawsuits, girls on trampolines
I will add parking and traffic planning to that list as well. Our current plan could not handle 30-40k. And where are we going to put those cars.
What makes good sense to me is to pair the stadium expansion with a new access road that start almost parallel to the light rail. That would provide good and dedicated construction access to the stadium, while also allowing for general campus expansion. It’s complicated, but needed. Without such construction access, the project is screwed. They could work night shifts and use primarily structured steel, but a dedicated access is still essential in my mind. Construction costs are already soaring, adding access delays and nighttime schedules will only sap funds
