No wonder we are so poor.
Just the amount needed for footballā¦
In the student senate here, weāve been talking about this for a long time. We are all rather frustrated at how Chapel Hill seems to get everything they ask for while other schools are pushed to the side.
East Carolina University made the move to doctoral certification in 1999, and received its transitional money in 1999-2000, and 2002-2003. That's just wrong but I've come to expect that from the "UNC Chapel Hill and NC State led" legislature of North Carolina.

I've many many calls to my local legistaltors, they didn't care too much at that time about UNCC's issues.
Thanks for printing this Observer.
Ironically, I just mentioned this in a conversation with some people last night. We were talking about how the Charlotte area gets screwed with road money when compared to places like the Triangle, and I stated that the state also owed UNCC 10 million dollars a year for the past 3 or 4 years. I mentioned unc-r and unc-queerville hill were taking all the money.
One of them (unc-r grad) questioned my source of information. I jokingly stated it should be printed in the Observer today, but had no idea it was really going to be printed in the Observer.
Now, when the Observer reports that unc-queerville hill uses taxpayer money to pay for maintenance on the dean dome, I will really be stunned.
we need more than just state senate and house elected niners, we need a Governor from the city of Charlotte or area. on the eastern half of the state there is basically a āhate charlotteā mindset and the whole raleigh vs. charlotte rivalry. Charlotte gets screwed in all types of funding which is one reason why our road infrastructure sucks and raleigh is the opposite.
the Governor of North Carolina has alot of power, much more than the office use to because of line item veto. Easley is a complete slimeball, he has basically āstoleā millions from cities on this side of the state and ādivertedā them to other āusesāā¦if we had elected Vinroot things may have gotten much better, of course he went to chapel hill i believe but atleast he lives in charlotteā¦and he couldnāt even get nominated.
Where are all the great roads in Raleigh? Its Marc Basnight and eastern NC that are getting more than their share of money in NC relatative to their population down east.
NinerOne, Vinroot couldnāt even carry Mecklenburg when he ran against Easley.

Good point, actually this rivarly has existed all the way back to the colonial days! I had a class on American Values here at Charlotte and this was one of the issues we talked about. I think the UNC-R v UNCC rivalry is just the modern incarnation of that.

I also think there is a stupid law that states all geographic regions in the state have to have the same allocation in dollars spent for roads.
Also⦠I also believe the state helps out a little with the coliseum in Raleigh, but refused to help Charlotte any with the new downtown arena.
Is that a one time $10.5M? Since it is so lat, will we lobby for āprovisional moniesā to account for inflation since 2000? Seems we should. Thatās at least another $1M owed us!

clt will make a few calls and weāll have our money.
cough I think we found what the state lottery should go towards. cough

exactly what does this have to do with the fact we need a governor from charlotte and Vinroot was the chance? a vast majority of voters are ignorant about the issues and facts anyway, this is why they call it politics. bottom line western NC needs a western NC Governor or we will continue to get screwedā¦especially with the line item veto power. Charlotte = money power of NC, Raleigh = political power of NC.
I met basnight and Easley before easley was governor, didnāt care much for either. they definitely have eastern NC in their interest, only thing Charlotte has going for it with Easley is that the CEO of Wachovia, Ken Thompson, grew up with Easley in Rocky Mount. thats probably a better thing for Wachovia than charlotte in general.
if you really need to know why not, PM me and Iāll give you a few reasons why.
think about this, charlotte has always been one of if not the largest, most prosperous cities in the state. NC has one of the oldest public university systems in the country. unc-ch, unc-r are both very old schoolsā¦but in an area that certainly has an interest in a major university it was not established unitl 1949, imagine were the university of charlotte would be had it been founded in 1800ās. not saying that it all has to do with charlotte vs. raleigh rivalry, but I think it mostly does.
also, if our school was older and more established, imagine were our bball program could be. its remarkable were we are in a short period of time anyway.
Sideshow, I have read your reasons. Again, Iām against it. But itās going to happen.
Therefore, since it is going to happen, extremely high on the priority list of ways to manage this money (or mismanage, since the state is resorting to it to begin with) should be this university. Not NC State. Not UNC Chapel Hill. Simply put, thatās all Iām saying.
Charlotte = money power of NC, Raleigh = political power of NC.
Exactly!!!
When your politian asks for money for his reelection, ask him where Charlotteās 10.5 mil is at.

I like the way you think.
