Yeah, that sounds right------thanks.
I managed to get a group of people together from work to attend that SC game. That night was the proudest I ever felt about Niner hoops. Everyone in the group was astounded by what they saw that night.
I think under Major we played Georgia Tech in Halton, as well.
we played Georgia tech at home with both Major and Lutz.
I donât really remember the one under Major, but the one under Lutz was in his final season. Derrio Green went insane and had 30+ points, mostly in the second half. I think we were down 25+ points at one point. Derrio pulled us back into the game, but we still lost.
Yep-----I had almost forgotten about that game.
Beat SC by 21 in 00-01 season and then Charleston Southern by 42 the next night. Have never played Tennessee in Halton, but did beat them in the first round of the NCAA in 01.
We beat #7 Tennessee 49-48 at TWCA in December, 2010.
Not correct. We played UT in Halton in tbe very early days of Halton. âŚDecember 28th, 1996âŚwe beat them 72-51, in Halton.
Stand corrected on that had in my head that game occurred before that.
We also beat Tennessee in Charlotte in 1992 at the now-demolished Charlotte Coliseum on Tyvola.
Talked with Coach Fearne tonight. If I thought he was the right choice when Ron left, I am even more convinced now. I am excited to see the great things he will do this year.
Go Niners.
And Wisselâs team played Ga Tech at the colosseum on independence during our 5 - 23 year. Mark Price and John Salleyâs team. Only lost by 8, and we were probably a 30 point underdog. Clinton Hinton had a big game for us.
We also played Wake with Bogues at home in that era.
And up in W-S too the same season. Visiting team won both games by a point.
IIRC, John Salley was injured and did not play that night.
Didnât remember that. Helps explain only losing by 8.
The original thread is locked about what it would take for Fearne to earn the job.
Remember a lot of posters posting Top 4 or Top 3 finish and a win in the Conference Tourney.
He was extended/hired earlier than some expected but Iâd say the Top 3 finish is validation at this pointâŚespecially considering where the roster was and what the expectations were going into the season.
NowâŚletâs win a Conference Tourney game for the 1st time in a decade!!
I have not been this proud, interested in or excited about Niner basketball in a long time. I think Fearne may have fallen into our lap. Thanks Ron. Honestly, ECU probably has more talent and athleticism than us. I love the way that Fearne uses his players to win games. We are not going to out talent many team but we can out hustle, smart, execute and heart many teams. Very excited for the future. I anticipate a heavy international influence to our team moving forward. I love it. Go Niners!
It is amazing how well this team has played and brought back basketball to Charlotte. And, there is no way Ron could have ever reached this achievement. Thank you Coach Fearne! Also, thank you Ron for removing your ass from Charlotte!
