The main reason these teams usually agree to play at spectrum is so they can get site experience for a first round game in the tournament. We’ve seen it happen several times.
If this is a contractual thing, there shouldn’t be an option for VA to have a voice in where the game is played.
I live uptown so I’m biased, but I like having a game at Spectrum.
It brings fans into the city and gets us exposure to local bars/restaruants, etc.
It is rare for most people to see Charlotte fans hanging around uptown.
Does anyone know Byron Dinkin’s situation? Has he been promoted?
Has an acc team ever played us in halton (at home)?
Yes. Clemson and Wake Forest come to mind.
Maryland
Georgia Tech as well I believe.
Maryland was in uptown thinking was 08-09 season.
Miami
Didn’t read ot close enough
First time we played Miami in Halton we won by 30 I believe. Lutz days!
That was pre ACC Miami. But yes, we played them 11/28/00 and beat them 95-63 in Halton. Even worse, we were up 95-55 when Lutz called off the dogs and cleared the bench.
And that Miami team had Darius Rice, plus NBA players John Salmons and James Jones.
That was a magic season. We got two coaches fired via similar beatdowns. First was Eddie Fogeler at USC after we dropped 17 3’s on his Gamecock team (12/2/00, we won 98-77) and got him tossed out of the game, and later (2/11/01) we beat Denny Crum 106-72 and ended his career. Lutz walked off the floor at Freedom Hall giving the jeering Card fans a double thumbs up.
That was also the season NCSU opened the RBC center and we beat them 95-78 on their own floor in their own tournament.
Good times.
We played #17 Miami in halton in 2014 and lost by 3.
Lost to FSU by 3 at Time Warner Cable Arena in 2012. A potential tying three by Ivan Benkovic clanked off the rim at the buzzer.
Uh huh
Yes, and that was just before or after a similar beating of South Carolina-----which made Fogler look so bad he was fired a couple days later (IIRC, he was even ejected from the game).
yes, but we played Miami again in Halton (I’m pretty sure that one was after they joined the ACC----during Major years, I think)…>Edit- NN beat me to it.
Think we beat sc by 40 and a few night later Tennessee by 41 (at home)
