Charlotte v Arizona St - POSTGAME
Are you saying we use to be a consistant top 14 team here???
I would say we were consistantly a top 30-35 team. Made the tourney most years, normally a 7, 8, 9 or 10 seed. Do the math.

Now we aren’t in the top 200. I am as down on this program as I’ve ever been. The bad part is I don’t see any improvement or willingness to change. I keep hearing we’re getting good recruiting classes in and they get here and don’t live up to expectations and don’t seem to improve over the course of years. There are too many examples to name.

Boys and girls, this isn’t good. Even the most optimistic of you have to know that.

We’re in for some rough waters ahead.

The good news is I may be able to move up in seating if this keeps up much longer.

You’re always so positive.
You’re always so positive.
Doesn’t make him wrong
I get what you’re saying but how can Phil play more than 15 minutes when he fouls out?
I’m just astonished that he could commit 5 fouls in only 15 minutes. I’m not even sure Martin Iti could beat that.

I never thought of that!!!

Finally a positive spin on things!!!

Something good can come out of this!!!

Thanks!!

How is this good news? The only thing worse than watching this team is watching them closer.

Well, I mean, I assume we won’t always be bad.

I watched the game with my wife’s step-father and was utterly ashamed. I asked him to turn it off at the end of the 1st half and walked away.
As much as guys like to jump on the posters pointing out the officiating, it is a factor in the final score. We have gotten zero respect from A10 officiating in past years, and there have been some occasions when I really do think the officiating has changed the outcome of the game (not this one most likely, but a blowout is more likely when your better players have foul trouble). When you can’t play the same way the other team does, it makes your defense look soft (what, you want them to foul out more quickly?) and your offense looks ragged as they pull and bump players without getting called. Again, not the reason we lost, but there’s no reason to always dismiss it as unimportant. Let’s just say it contributes (you could argue whether Lutz is part of the reason for the lack of officiating respect…).
Exactly my point. As I said they were a better team and played better and the officials arent’ the reason we lost… But it is the reason it was such a blow out. They were a much bigger more physical team and any sort of retaliation on our team ended up in a foul. If everytime you tried to play up on a guy you were worried about fouling then your confidence would be decline and cause your game to fall apart. I see this game as a 10 - 15 point loss had things been called more reasonably. We proved that we could make a run in the second half when we brought the game to 6.

And to all the Bobby haters… Bobby played very calm with the refs and instructed the players to run plays and screens… the players just didn’t listen or respond to the coach. They had a difficult time with ASU’s defense and every time they would try to drive, screen, or post up they got called for charging …though most often it was a moving screen. I watched the game right behind the teams bench and I saw and hear things that went on that those of you on TV didn’t. I head the officials at the scorers table mumbling stuff about our program…

I bet tonight we have a little better time largely in part that we will be playing another east coast team and perhaps one that is perceived to be more of a treat to Pac 10 BB. Living out here for 4 years now I’ve noticed a lot of bitching and complaining from west coast teams in that they don’t get the respect that the east coast teams do and that they get shafted in tournament seeding etc because of it. Especially from teams like CAL, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, ASU, AZ. UCLA and USC seem to be the only teams that consistently earn respect from the east coast biased media. I may not be entirely right about all of this but just an observation and feeling I get.
Game plans and execution comes long after…

 1. Knowing how to dribble (and I don’t mean off you foot, like we do so well)
 2. Passing to people on your own team
 3. Moving w/o the basketball
 4. Being able to make an uncontested layup

Anyone care to add more things we don’t know how to do?

I am optimistic…I think we can at least learn how to do one or two of these things in time for Atlantic City!
1. Follow your shot!
No way. You were on that last Mildcats road-trip, weren’t you?
My all-time low point in Niner History…
Remember the 9 point first half against Miss. St? Could have been worse if Lee didn’t finally hit a 3 with 1:00 min left in the half.

And to all the Bobby haters... Bobby played very calm with the refs and instructed the players to run plays and screens... the players just didn't listen or respond to the coach.
People post this every year. And every time they think they're defending Lutz. I see it as the hardest slap in the face you can give a coach.

amen
Funny thing.. I hear Bobby talking to one of the officials behind the scorers table.. it had something to do with a 30 second time out and that the time starts when the last player enters the coaches box area behind the line or something like that. The guy tried to bs Bobby and Bobby told the guy "I know the rules... I'm on the NCAA rules committee and I wrote the rules.." ...it was really funny. Just showed that all the officiating in the house was trying to give us the short end of the stick.

Phil fouled out of the game. AS SOON as he fouled out, the ref started pressuring Bobby to bring in a sub. Bobby told him he gets a minute to sub, the ref continued to be an a-hole about getting in a sub. Even Judy Rose started yelling out the rule to the ref. A different ref dealt with Bobby when Mack fouled out. One of the refs was ā€œnot good,ā€ to say the least. Harris was getting forearm shivered and cleared out when pressuring. 4 for ASU was good at clearing out before he got the ball. But the reffing is not why we lost the game.

My view is, unfortunately, that some of our players do not look for their shot. There is a lack of confidence in some. Coley has a good jumper in warmup, then something happens during the game where he looks gun shy. DiJuan will not shoot the jumper much. Thus, many times it is like we are short handed during a power play, where 4 defenders are against 3 scorers.

But there was some good. Jones was taking the initiative on the bench to pump up players during timeouts. He’s becoming a leader. Barnett follows directions unquestioningly. So even though things have been rough, the team does not show quit. And Barnett can shoot over almost anyone. I’m happy we have him for four.

We just need some players to find their shot. Mack is cold, Ian is streaky, and Coleman’s been hurt. Coley has no confidence and DiJuan refuses to shoot it. Dewhurst is pressing, and Wilderness does not see the ball enough to get into a flow.

This was a big point in my first post... This team got away with a lot of things and there wasn't really much we could do about it. There arn't a lot of great west coast teams like there are on the east coast and i'm sure all the big west officials came from pac 10 schools and are try to promote west coast basketball. We would of had a much better game to play Wake in the opening round rather then a west coast team.

Oh no. Don’t turn this into another referee conspiracy thread.
