Hate to say it but I wask kinda expecting this loss. I hate the idea of playing 2 games in three days unless it’s the tournament, etc. Even so, it’s only the second game of the year. People need to calm down a little and let’s see what happens.
I’m beside myself. App will be just as good as ODU especially at the guard position.
I seriously doubt that. Their guards will be as good but the entire team will not. ODU was projected 2nd or 3rd in a conference sometimes as good as the A10. I doubt ASU finishes better than 3rd in the lowly Southern conference. My concern with ASU is we never play well in Boone.

Lutz mentioned that in his postgame interview. Said that he should not have scheduled the game two days later, especially since ODU did not play on the same amount of rest.

App is the best team in the SoCon North Div… They are as good as ODU- since they are at home

I bet he did. He’s done that a lot though, had some crazy scheduling, either in a early season tournament or two close games, and then when we lose, he says, “Well it’s my fault, shouldn’t have scheduled that way.” I don’t know why we schedule the way we do sometimes, but that is at least the 3rd or 4th time in the past few years I have heard Bobby take the blame and say the loss was due to poor scheduling. It’s getting old.

Old Dominion did better than Charlotte at Effective Field Goal Pct (52.0 vs 45.8) and Offensive Rebound Percentage (43.8 vs 16.7).
Tale of the tape.

rebounds were sick
The hats gotta make a comeback tour…
App is the best team in the SoCon North Div…
So?
since they are at home
Have you ever been to a game at their place? The only home advantage they have is the difference in altitude.

I’m sure he had no choice, being that there was a conflict with women’s volleyball or something obviously more important…

He does/did it to get us a home game we likely would not have had otherwise. Plain and simple. This was what I would consider a quality opponent, also. We might could have squeezed in a December home game against a cupcake, but it’s tough with exams, etc. I’m not using it as an excuse as to why we lost, I’m just stating that was the reason for scheduling this game 2 days after the UNCG game and why we did the same thing against North Texas a few seasons ago: to try to get a home game against a decent team that we would likely otherwise not be able to schedule in December or later in November.
I'm sure he had no choice, being that there was a conflict with women's volleyball or something obviously more important...
I was wondering if anyone was gonna zing that. I wasn’t gonna say it.
fwiw, during the whole Davidson sked fiasco, Judy took responsibility…

Well, I’m pretty sure I’ve said all along that we may be good this year, but I think we’ll be great next year. I was saying that last season at the start of the year. I think we have potential to be good this year, but we’re still gonna take a lot of lumps.
The game we played against UNCG was horrendous, they were just really, really, really bad. I just had expectations of a few games like that this year. I don’t think a 7th place finish in conference is out of the question either. Losing two parts of our back court allowed me to be even more expecting of letdowns.
to Chipper and ID.
We just lost a HOME game to a CAA team off of an uneven win over a bad SoCon team. So knocking any league isn’t exactly something we can or should be doing right now.
Forgive me if I don’t look to the App game with tons of confidence. We barely beat them here last season, and talk smack about their crowd all you want- most teams play much better at home. I not so fondly recall my last visit there- I went home pissed off. Until Halton is full and alive we should all stop bagging other crowds.

Right on man. I don’t even know if this is a game we should win at this point, until our team gets some discipline.

Don’t get me wrong, i am worried about this game and we have a lot of problems. We play a half-decent team this past friday and we are 0-2 right now.
I just think it is funny to think app basketball has homecourt advantage.

I GET SO F###ING TIRED OF EXCUSES!!!
Why would you not play these games? Where you not going to practice anyway? Hell, I’d rather play UNC-G than practice, and I’ll bet the guys would too. Playing a crappy teams and the guys not playing over 25 minutes should be a helluva lot easier than practice so being tired should not be an issue.
And I don’t buy the “only one day to prepare” crap either. Do what you should do on your end and you shouldn’t worry about what the other guys do. Execute your Offense and guard on D- there hasn’t been a new play drawn up in 40 years. Well, I take that back, some teams have run sets for 30 yrs to shoot 20 fters since the 3 line came about.
The loss wasn’t due to poor scheduling, it was due to poor execution, bad rebounding and awful perimeter D. You’re up 4 pts with 18 seconds or so left, the only way to lose is to let them hit 2 3 pters and miss fts and I’ll be damned if we didn’t do it. The ft was big, but we were solid from the line so I’ll give that a break- Don’t let them take a three unless it’s an off-balance throw. It’s not a hard concept to grasp.
Apparently our team/staff just doesn’t get it.

That about sums it up…
What I have never understood was Bobby’s obsession with half court traps. Am I the only one who realizes we hardly see that from our opponents, yet we do it all the time. It his high risk moderate reward IMO. These are division 1 basketball players, I am going to go out on a limb and say the vast majority of D1 guards can hit wide open 3 pointers. I understood doubling Lee in the post, but the scrambling around center court was unneccessary.
Another reason why we shouldn’t have trapped so much, is how good of an offensive rebounding team ODU is, something we knew coming in to the game. Trapping puts rebounders out of position, I can’t even count how many times ODU put up a brick that lead to an easy offensive rebound due to our trapping and being out of position.
Some of these things can be fixed, while others are just fixtures of Bobby Lutz Basketball.
