Guess this is going to be a long season. Having lived through the Hal Wissel era, I have personally seen the lowest of lows in Niner athletics. Ugh!
I also had similar thoughts as others above before the game. I have only seen them play the Ohio St game. This team right now is struggling with consistency, only seeing one, but looking at the stats or reading an article or seeing press conference after. The fourth quarter they got beat. I did think things would be a little further along for this group, even with the extra practice in the summer. You still have to build and show during the season. I have seen many of teams, and this one is still learning. How good this team can be remains to be seen, but right now the inconsistency is really hurting them. They are not playing like a seasoned well oiled machine right now, because they surely are not. On the plus side, this is what your November & Decembers are for, right before that first conference game at the end of December. Also a thing with every team is that you have to be ready to play. I will say I donโt think the team was overlooking, I think the problem currently is them, and trying to sort things out. Seems like some who saw said the team play was bad & ugly, which is not what you want to see. Share how you all really feel, itโs good for discussion on here, and seems like everyone expects better than what was shown tonight. Going to see how they respond for the next game, but the consistency has to happen for them to be the best team they can. You all havenโt gotten a good four quarters from them yet, not on both ends of the ball. Not sure other than them learning is the main obstacle right now.
Hopefully, getting back the big center will make a difference. It appears that we donโt have the talent to play the style Reed wants to play. Playing a fast tempo should not mean taking a bunch of quick and low percentage shots, but that is what we are doing now. Once teams break our press, our defense leaves a lot to be desired, as well.
They asked some really good questions in the post game interview, you can tell they really are into the team and have done work to learn this current team and staff. To your point about the shots, they werenโt supposed to take them, they know better. Coach saying they saw the openings and took them, didnโt run the play she called out of the time out. You can tell coach is not happy with the lack of discipline shown tonight. They are not doing the best job right now of bringing what is done in practice to the game. I was wondering to myself did she work them too hard in practice? I remember coach Reed talking about finding that balance with this new team on how tough she can be with them. That fourth quarter, they just didnโt have it in them to come out on top. The team has a lot of smart players, for them and the coaches, itโs how to bring it out consistently in games, road and home. We shall see how they respond next game.
Play G-W on Thursday at Halton. Niners won last yearโs meeting 93-43.
Then itโs Miami-FL the day after Thanksgiving in Coral Gables.
We canโt shoot the ball. Canโt win games without it. Someone needs to step up and be the alpha on offense
Ladies down at half 31-32
Ladies up 56-50 after 3 quarters, Breland has 27 points
Ladies played very good second half and win game 83-67
Hopefully that offensive switch that got flipped on tonight remains in the on position for the rest of the year!
Plus good news on the recruiting trail:
8ppg and <20% from 3โฆi dunno
No argument that her freshman 3-point stats from last year arenโt good. Suspect Coach signed her for other aspects of her game.
Had 18 pts and 10 rebs in the latest contest for Kilgore (7-0). She didnโt attempt a 3 in that 108-45 win over fellow Texas JuCo Southwestern Christian this past Monday.
