Okay the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament will be two games. So everyone will play Friday, have Saturday off, then play the Championship game and 3rd/4th place on Sunday. Looking at the other two teams, Southeastern Louisiana, and Quinnipiac, they have done well in the early season. So either team will be a good game to play and build off of after Miami. I had to look at Miamiβs schedule last year to see how it went, because I was unclear if they played three straight games, it is only two if anyone else had the same question I did. The same coach is still at Quinnipiac, I remember her from when they played South Carolina in the tournament a few years ago, this is her 30th year there. The Southeastern Louisiana coach has been there since 2017, for anyone interested in the other two teams. We all know Charlotte and Miami have new coaches this year.
Pretty sure ghostofclt will be very interested in the Miami-FL game for a couple of reasons in particular!
All kidding aside, will be interesting to see how the Niners perform against the undefeated Canes. Itβs like some switch came on during the second half against G-W and hopefully that carries over. Really going to be strange not seeing one time Niner HC Katie Meier on the sidelines for the U after all those years she spent in Coral Gables.
Anyway, thanks for all the insightful posts!
That Charleston Southern loss will continue to age absolutely terribly. Currently losing 57-22 at home to Fairfield
Yeah itβs the nature of the early season, these things do happen. At least it wasnβt because they looked down on them, they just were not playing as they should, that included plays the coach called out of a timeout!
With this team being new everything, it is part of the process, and sometimes it can seem or be really slow. Look at South Carolina currently, I have heard a lot of comments after the UCLA game. People want shake ups to the roster, this and that. You could clearly see that they are also a team figuring things out, because they have yet to be solid for all four quarters.
This is also what you want early in the season, now granted, Charleston Southern is no Ohio St, and Charlotte was at home and not on the road. I was able to download that Ohio St game, I actually had to download video and audio separate and then combine it to watch with audio. That third quarter of that game is what you want to see from Charlotte, you want them to build upon that, because they were competing in that quarter. Yes they left points on the floor in the first half, I score would have been closer, they may have been able to shake the them had they played all four quarters like the third.
Coach Reed didnβt go to sleep after that loss at home to Charleston Southern, because of how they played, and she wins games at home, she doesnβt want that to change in Charlotte, especially trying to build up excitement for the fans here. She said her and the coaches were in group chat after that, it bothered her that much.
With that being said, this is still all with a new team, but she expects better from them, and the practices they had, were not translating to gameday. So that can be really frustrating when you know what your team is capable of, but it is not showing on gameday consistently.
I have been keeping up with the others in the conference, and no one is currently is head and shoulders above anyone right now. USF does have the toughest schedule, as they will have played a lot of tough teams. Teams will be better between now and the end of December. For this team the question will be have the found consistency by then, if so that is one less thing to worry about.
Granted I did expect them to win that game, and have less growing pains due to the overall individual experience of the players, but they still have to put it together as a team, and build on it.
Good showing so far vs the Cavinder Twins & Co.
Gals off a bit during the 3rd quarter.
Fourth quarter pretty much all Canes.
Definitely some positives to take away from this game, such as the lead at halftime. Next up is either Quinnipiac or SE Louisiana on Sunday at noon in Coral Gables.
I will try to find both post game interviews to hear what the coaches had to say. But I would say they really had a good week of practice to come to Miami for these two games.
Also for me because both teams have new coaches, it was a chance to see how they both competed with still trying to establish the new coaches philosophies. Both coaches having built successful programs, so that dynamic for me was the most interesting part of this.
Miami is in the ACC a power conference school, so this was really a good look to see another team with a new staff, and at there home for there tournament. We will see how the games go on Sunday, and who wins tonightβs game to see what the matchups will be on Sunday.
For anyone interested a full game replay of this game will be on the ACC Network Youtube channel December 1st.
SE LA 29-22 @ halftime.
Niners offensively challenged again, with 0 FGs in final 7:52 of 2nd qtr.
SE LA 48-30 after 3.
SE LA Win 62-53 over Charlotte.
