Its still a car which means it won’t be trouble free. I don’t know anyone, even the biggest EV fans that think they are trouble free. What they eventually will be, is far less maintenance items than our current ICEs. I mean not having to change the oil alone is a way to avoid maintenance that ends up popping up due to people being stupid and not changing their oil. With so fewer parts and a simpler design that is where it will end up. The ICEs we have now are running on 100 years of refinement, the EVs are at the very beginning of theirs.
Now the hybrids - which I think is probably a better path for most folks - will be interesting because they still have some of the ICE maintenance challenges but with the EV ones too.
I don’t mind EVs. I think there is a place for them. I just find them souless and don’t want one myself, but more power to the folks that do.

Maintenance on modern fossil fuel car’s isn’t that intense. Oil can be changed at almost 10,000 miles. What is that like, 200 hours of EV charging ? By the time gas cars start becoming more maintenance intensive, the EV’s will start diminishing .
I watched a video on the cyphertrick and noticed the goofy rims or hubcaps, whatever they are, that they look integrated with the tires? Does that mean it can only be used with specialized tires? Then you consider the massive weight on those big tires, and that all 4 wheels steer, therefore needing proper alignment and accelerated tire wear. It’s a glorious recipe. New things have a whole new bag of new problems and expenses. I can’t wait
We aren’t talking just regular maintenance though it’s just potential to have work done. In that regard ICEs have far more fluids and moving parts which also means way more to go wrong.

It was Daihatsu. They made shitty cheap cars for the Japanese and Asian markets. They tried to get a foothold here back in the late 80s and early 90s, but Americans quickly realized they were basically japanese versions of Yugos. Just the lowest end parts and engineering possible. With poor build quality to boot.

Question: sometimes when I’m at a stop light and the light turns green, the car next to me sounds like it’s just starting up and had not been idling while stopped. That’s happened several times. What’s going on?
They turned off the engine while they wait? Maybe they choked it down getting back into first and had to restart?
Auto start/stop? If they’re old beater cars, this can be ruled out
My truck has that “feature” and I hate it. Problem is that GM made it where it automatically enables the auto-shutoff every time the vehicle starts. No option to disable it as you have to manually turn it off every time the vehicle starts. I believe it is their solution to skirt the government fuel mileage requirements.

I have seen people buy an older car to avoid it, they hate it that much.
