Yes. I gathered the same from his response to mine as well. If you care enough, please send Phil your thoughts. If nothing else, his response will likely give you a few laughs. At least he will know that there are some people that care. I will warn you though. He will probably CC half of the campus with his response.
Chapel Hill Phil is living up to his name. This BS he’s feeding us would fit right in with the BS spewing from their athletic dept.
The tower is sound for some time to come, but bringing it down in December leaves little time to organize and fund raise. I know it. You know it, He knows it.
Saddest thing about Dubois, he is 180 polar opposite of what Niners are. UNCC alum are down to earth, common sense, salt of earth type folks. He is a pompous, elitist, smug SOB with an awful feel for people. Cal Berkely material at its best.

Maybe the members of the Board who voted unanimously to tear it down should be getting some e-mails. Especially the 6 (?) alums on the BOT.

I still want to know why CHP blames not repairing the tower because of funding , but he wants to build something else twice as expensive as it will cost to fix the existing tower.

While not advocating or opposing his view, it sounds like part of the explanation for the increased expense is to rework the entire area into a more used quad, as it is hardly used at all anymore. It could be that they do not foresee that being feasible with the bell tower repair expense/location and consider it more efficient and effective to utilize that million dollars toward creating a great space (rather than repairing the tower for $1 million and having fewer funds and a large obstacle to try to make the space work). Again, not advocating or opposing the view- it just sounds like the reasoning.

Commuter grads. Guaranteed. More loyal to UNC than Charlotte
I keep hearing talk of students chaining themselves to it, protests, etc. But you gotta walk the walk. Obviously the administration doesn’t care about our emails, online petitions, and letters to the editor.
So where are the protests? Where are the passionate students? Talk is cheap. Unless it’s backed up with action it’s worthless. It was the grassroots action that brought football to UNC Charlotte. It was grassroots action that brought the Hornets back to Charlotte. Grassroots action is one of the defining characteristics, not just of this school but of this city.
It will take the same passion or more to save the tower. I hope some student reads this and steps up.
EDIT: I went to post this on the “Save the Belk Tower” facebook page only to find that it has been deactivated. If there’s no one to step up then this is all fruitless.

I noticed that it had mysteriously disappeared yesterday. Someone has started a new one though.

UNCC, Phil, & trustees have 1 mission:
To sell itself to the diploma factory market
The romanticized view we all have of our past…is worthless
Phil picked a great career:
Reign over a school that 1% of alumni voice opinion, and 99% moved on to supporting traditional schools
Well played Phil Dubois.
Sideshow, if someone tells me when the protests are, I’ll go. Make sure to have it after work hours.
I think you might have to take the reigns on this.
Saying the quad around the Belk tower isn’t used is a bold faced lie. Its by far the most inhabited outdoor area on campus besides the outdoor eating area beside prospector. But we all know Phil just wants something new and brick like the rest of campus…
What are you gonna do about it?
What are you gonna do about it?
I smell something brewing…meet him by the ATMs in Halton.
The problem with fighting Phil at the ATM, is he’ll cheat & bring Campus Police as back up. :-*
The problem with fighting Phil at the ATM, is he’ll cheat & bring Campus Police as back up. :-*
Have the Phil v. SCK, not at the ATM, but in the arena in a cage. Charge $100 per ticket. Raise upwards of $1 million pulping the chancellor. Fix the tower with the proceeds.
Win-win.
No, I’m not in favor or pulping Phil-it’s a joke
I am somehow amused by all the umbrage over this. ???
Why?
Why?
For me personally, the tower holds no sentimental value, and really til now, it seemed to not for most. It was mostly a joke to students, alums, and outsiders alike. So I’m surprised at all the "love" it’s getting now. If it goes, I won’t miss it. That’s me. If people want to fight to keep it, fine. If it’s replaced, I hope whatever goes in there is accepted by most everyone, but I know it probably won’t because, these days we just like to bitch regardless of the reason or cause.
