Those 'ole boys weren’t used to wearing shoes at home, so they saw no harm in selling 'em once they reached Chapel Hill. They did manage to get credit for Shoelace Tying 101 so as to remain eligible, though.
(unverified rumor that advisors gave extralegal help with the course)
When UNC-CH offers up a team to the NCAA to investigate, and suspends the whole staff, there is only one conclusion I can draw–Ol’ Roy is cheating big time and they need a distraction! Maybe Avenatti is about to dump the dirt on Nike and the Heels.
There’s a long Washington Post article about the UNC-CH coaches being suspended. The primary issues are supposed racist remarks made by Coach Hatchell, her pressuring players to play hurt, and players being given poor/incomplete medical advice.
UNC has several players entering or contemplating entering the transfer portal. They had only 8 healthy scholarship worthy players this season. '19-'20 is the last season she is under contract. UNC-CH wants to run her off without angering her fans and paying her as little as possible. There’s no heir apparent on her staff.
I think this investigation could turn very interesting. Hatchell and her program were the ones to take the fall in the academic scandal and now she is accused of racist remarks and encouraging players to play hurt. The latter implications are career killers. It will be interesting to see if she is pushed to expose what she knows about the Athletic Department and how they operate or if this is repercussions for her threatening to expose. I may be reaching, but it seems odd that a coach with that experience would now be facing questions of racism and improper medical practices.
