clt's write state game recap featuring a knee replacement performed by tom hanks

I think Major has realized that Voncina isn’t going to win games for us right now. He only played 8 minutes in the last game.

But I also think Major is still feeling his way around this team. There are a lot of new players and all of our players have to learn to play together. I think all of our guards have lots of room to improve.

Braswell should play 30+ minutes when he isn’t in foul trouble. Mayfield, Henry and JB are probably going to see 25+. Nickerson and Williams might play more as the season progresses.

Major has made post game comments about developing the bench play of this team, which isn’t all that surprising since he basically didn’t have one last year. Am I comfortable with him developing it to the point where it costs us games (ETSU) and almost costs us games (CMU and WSU)? No, but I’m not the coach. He seems resigned to the fact that he wants an 8 to 9 man rotation and will take his lumps early with the idea it will pay off in conference. Is the A10 a good enough conference so that if you do well enough in it you can make a post season appearance (NCAA or NIT)? Yes, but not by much. Major has quite a bit to learn about this team as it pertains to in game situations and he seems to believe in baptism by fire in some instances such as the hockey style line switches, benching high minute guys, and other awkward combos. Will it pay off? I don’t think any of us know (no matter how much we think we do). I just know that a win is a win and as long as that is a consistent occurrence I’m okay with that.

Congrats to the team for making shots. They needed every bucket due to the rash of turnovers.

What did Bras do to get a tech near the end of the game?[/quote]

This, especially the bolded part, which I was baffled by all game long. Before we make too many comparisons to our previous outings, witness the night and day offensive efficiency difference between when we play against M2M and a packed in 2-3 zone.

Any coach that can zone us, will, until we prove we can beat it.

The scary thing is that we still almost lost due to all the damn turnovers.

There are two ways to beat a zone, well really only 1 way, the 2nd is fools gold.

  1. Triple threat at the High Post. Get the ball to a big guy at the FT extended area that can make the 15 foot jumper, make the entry pass to the post for a layup or reverse the ball to the other side of the court.

  2. Shoot the other team out of the zone by bombing 3s.

IMO, we don’t really have anyone that can play the role I mentioned in #1. KJ has showed times of having an effective mid-range jumper, but it isn’t consistent enough and his passing still needs work.

We definitely can’t shoot teams out of the zone, however I would rather us learn to beat a zone doing #1.

Good points.
