Coach firing time, 2008 season
How about the other Doherty? Finished 4-12, 10-20, good for 11th in CUSA.
SMU hasn’t had a winning season since 2003. And the Mustangs have the dubious distinction of being the first Division I win for USC Upstate!

Looks like former LSU coach John Brady will be going to Arkansas St

Missouri State hires Purdue associate head coach (and former Boilermaker hoopster) Cuonzo Martin as HC of the Bears, who move into the new 13,000 seat JQH Arena next season.

News-Leader.com: Smiling Martin takes Bears job

BTW, that blog says there were 46 official candidates for the Mo State job and that $100,000 of the $300,000 base salary came from private donations by 15 individuals.

California fires Ben Braun, 2 days after losing to Ohio State in the NIT. He was 219-154 in 12 seasons.

TCU gets a replacement, getting Kent State’s coach.

There were also reports that Cal tried to lure the West Coast born and bred Jamie Dixon of Pitt out there, but to no avail.

Bob Hoffman has been hired at Mercer.

Looks like Sean Sutton is out at Oklahoma State…

Why would self go from Kansas to OSU?
Why would self go from Kansas to OSU?
OSU is his alma mater.
California fires Ben Braun, 2 days after losing to Ohio State in the NIT. He was 219-154 in 12 seasons.
There is some irony in the fact that New Mexico’s Steve Alford gets a 3-year extension following the Lobos’ first round exit in the NIT versus the Cal Bears. Alford loses – get an extension. Braun wins – gets the ax. (Of course, when looking at the bigger picture, I understand those 2 events. Still, the irony…)
Derek Thomas resigned at Western Illinois after going 40-104 in five seasons.
And WIU is playing “hardball” with one of Thomas’ recruits who could end up at Saint Louis if he can get out of his NLI…

Crean to IU

Crean to IU

bad move for crean. good move for IU. imo.

Crean will win a National Title with IU if they are patient.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff hires George Ivory (Mississippi Valley State assistant) to replace Van Holt who resigned after 6 seasons, 50-124.

Idaho fired George Pfeifer after two seasons (12-48) and hires Utah State assistant Don Verlin.

Sacramento State releases Jerome Jenkins after 8 years, 80-147. 102 applications have been filed for the job but before you apply consider this… Jenkins’ base salary of $88,584 was the lowest among the eight Division I basketball schools in the California State University system; the Hornets Nest capacity of 1,200 is tied for the fifth-smallest of the 341 schools playing Division I basketball; Sac State has not had a winning season since joining Division I in 1991, the Hornets’ 15-15 finish in the 2005-06 season is the high-water mark; the Hornets rank 335th in RPI.

In possibly the swiftest move in athletic director history, Alconrn State AD Darren Hamilton begins work on April 1 and fires coach Samuel West later that day. West was 44-103 in five seasons.

Geno Ford slides over one chair from assistant to the head coach at Kent State.

Speaking of coaches named Ford, LSU is denying that Travis Ford of UMass will be named the new coach of the Tigers. In fact, LSU is also in the process of hiring a new AD and that will be done prior to naming a new HC for the men’s hoops team. BTW, Duke’s AD Joe Alleva is a finalist for the same job in Baton Rouge.

Of course, Travis Ford could still end up at LSU, just not going to happen today as some guy at ESPN who also happens to be a Ford(e) reported…

BTW, on denials involving A-10 coaches, Rick Majerus has told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he’s not a candidate to take the job at Marquette (or in RM’s case, return for a 2nd stint at MU).
