Coach Lutz & The Future
our defense has gotten worse
Have to disagree on this point.

IMO, defense has been probably the biggest brightspot of the whole season. Of course, I may just be looking at it, relative to the rest of the team’s performance in other phases of the game.

In relation to this year, I mean. We’re certainly better than last year. Versus Richmond we allowed them to shoot 85% in the first half, and I believe >50% for the game. St Bonaventure shot 46% for the game. We held Wake Forest and Clemson to 35% and 37%, respectively. Maybe we just don’t “get up” defensively against teams like SBU.

Feel free to tell me why you think we'll be better without the senior leader emotionally and performance-wise. I certainly don't see anyone capable, at the moment.

I did about 12 posts ago. MK actually read it. Did you? You have not freaking clue how sports work. Seen how Kentucky is this year? not too good. What about Cincy? There are times when you gotta be patient.

Our defense in those games gave up a high percentage but forced a ton of turnovers.

The gritty games we have won was due to forcing turnovers and keeping the other team’s FG % down.

We have so many new players who all have no been scouted, it makes it much harder for the team to have success, especially with so many new faces, and I will continue to type without a period

If Lutz does that we really have a special coach on our hands.

if that’s your goal, you already messed up.

I still think we need a shooter for next year for the offense to work they way Lutz wants it to.
I know this is kind of beating a dead horse, but I am curious to read other members take on a specific issue with Lutz & the Future.
Kind of?!? Kind of!? No. At this point the horse is somewhere in the middle of this picture…

:hammer:

With as much of a surprise as this team has been early on and then the let down from the raised expectations in the last several games, I think it is rash to even discuss or try to culminate the season at this point into any resemblance of judgement. I think this will be a more justified discussion… oh I don’t know. After the season. We haven’t been consistent enough to show anything more than our inconsistency. And with a young team, I have no clue whether to put that on Lutz or not.

I was just referring to the last line since it was a run on sentence.

Looks a tad warm for the folks in that photo.

I’m willing to bet they don’t have to think too hard about their future.

I think Lutz should be let go and I should be hired to take his place. I’ll do it for cheap. I am really good at College Hoops 2K8. My team has won the Championship like 5 years in a row. I’m continually an elite team because my coaching style consists of shooting lots of 3’s, and going for alley-oops after every timeout break.

Well,Metro, you can go ahead and attack me too, because I think Bobby’s a mediocre coach.Mediocre in terms of recruiting, mediocre in terms of x’s and o’s.Looking at Savios 10 year chart, and taking an unpleasant assumption that the best we do this year is an NIT berth,I think anyone who thinks that 2 ncaa appearances(and quick exits) and 1 NIT win at home over a pathetic team during the last 5 years is good to me gets what they deserve…mediocrity.I’m just tired of the same old excuses…ACC Country…lousy conference…too young…too old…Bobby’s a good guy with a lot of enthusiasm(both characteristics he would have happily taken to UT if offered the job)…I just think he’s no better than an average coach.

what were the 3 things we had to improve this year? defense (check), chemistry (check), and attitude (check). It takes 2 years to turn it fully around. Next year all these kids will have another card to play offensively - I bet Anjuan will have a right hand, Dewy will have a short jumper, Gerrity will have a jumper, Phil will have a clue, Coley will do something besides dunk, etc. Remember- NONE of these kids have played D1 minutes until this year except Lee and Gerrity. We have equaled our win total from last year with greenhorns.

at this point of the season, we are no riddle. Every opposition takes away our offense. Next year we won’t be so easy to defend. Having veterans as opposed to rooks makes a huge difference.

Not that I dissagree with the point you are trying to make but, Ian did play last year.

I agree with this. We got mainly freshman and sophomores other than Coley and Mack at the 3, 4, 5. Our guys are getting pushed around and have trouble finishing. Look back to the UNCW exhibition game that we heard about. Their Senior big men abused our young guys. Telling sign. Our guys will get better, stronger and more confident each year.

This sums up my view as well.

I still hate the fact that we can’t close out games and we still take dumb shots from time to time. Having said that our improvements far outweigh our weaknesses at this point.

This team has improved in the ways I wanted to see it for this year. Next year I expect top 3 in A-10 and an NCAA birth.

I agree too. Better results on the court will be determined after next season. I mentioned when the contract extension came about that I thought they should have done it at the beginning of the season, thus making the evaluation occur over a couple of seasons instead of just one. Or go ahead and decide that your not going to give an extension based on what has already been accomplished rather than what is going to happen. IMO it wasn’t fair to say we’ll evaluate this season when you have 8 newcomers. The success of this class won’t really be known until a year or 2 from now.

What makes it interesting is the timing of it all. If the extension does happen this season, then the team doesn’t get better next year, we’re kind of stuck. Because of the time line it really leads me to believe that the contract was not about success on the court.

only thing I wish to attack is your spacebar use.

I don’t disagree the end of the rope is near. I just know that we were awful last year. We revamped. Next year- is the year. We were only picked 10th by our peers this year. (guess what- they know more than us).

the problem with alot of fans is the Wake and Clemson games upped your expectations. We are not a bad team. Every game is close, and last year we were getting smoked every night it seemed. I don’t mind a 18 win season this year, its rebuilding. Next year, 18 wins definately gets you fired.

I feel the exact same way.

Line returns would be nice too
Versus Richmond we allowed them to shoot 85% in the first half…
That was not all because of defense. They were hitting ridiculous shots and I think even banked in a three at one point. When a team is hot, even the greatest defense will struggle.

I wish we had the same motto as our womens team... 'no excuses, only results.' Seems like there is always an excuse for why our team doesn't do as well as it should.

Edit: To elaborate, our excuse next year will be “well, we’re learning to play without Lee.” We’ll end up having a bad year, and be like… well, we’ll get them next year! But, we’ll be without Coley and Mack then.

Let’s see, the women are 16-11 and the men are 14-10, not a huge difference in record there. In all seriousness, what would you want Lutz to say? There are reasons(excuses) why you lose a game. Every coach in America gives them in their post game comments after a loss. Coach K just came out after a loss saying that one of their players has being playing with an injury for awhile.
