You need therapy for the Biff stuff. Multiple people have explained to you why he was so terrible and in multiple ways.
The further away from program he is the better. He caused lasting damage that we are trying to fix. The longer he was here the worse it was going to get up to and including breaking state laws and bringing kids in that were going to make news and not in good ways.
This is where Iâm at now. I find myself drifting more towards pro sports and away from college sports. College sports just arenât as fun, to me, any longer. Unfortunately, I live too far away to enjoy the social aspects, such as tailgating Niner games. Maybe if I lived closer Iâd feel different. Now, I feel if everyone is getting paid, and my college team simply canât compete due to money, then I might as well pay more attention to the pros who are also getting paid, but a whole lot better at what they do.
He pissed off multiple large donors that we are still trying to recover from. Instead of opening doors he got doors closed. Berating rich people in public for not supporting the U is not the path towards success in Charlotte.
He did not understand why the AD wasnât paying players directly. He was told it was against state law for tax payer money to fund athletics and against NCAA regs and he still railed against it and constantly complained. He hosted a few people at the football center and did nothing but trash our supporters, fans, donors and AD for lack of support. He went so far with his rhetoric that it made some of the folks in attendance uncomfortable. That was followed by numerous public comments taking shots at our fans.
I had AD staff tell me his staff was recruiting players based solely on stars and game tape - they were not investigating why players were kicked off teams or academics standings. I was told it was just a matter of time before one of his players found themselves in jail or worse. Complete lack of vetting players beyond talent. There were a few players that were under open investigations or serious charges they wanted to bring in and got mad when they were told no.
All of that on top of being a poor coach and poor leader.
I donât know what kind of hard evidence you want. I didnât go around asking for a signed affidavit and notary on these things. But this came from people in the room or directly involved.
Next question is what happens after NIL is tax free in all the SEC states, which already includes those that were already income tax free - Florida, Tennessee, and Texas - and no one has an advantage.
So my salary gets taxed by the state. My bonus gets taxed by the state. Any capital gains get taxed by the state. However, there is some ridiculous justification that a student athlete getting paid is exempt from state taxes. Hell, if they are smart, they stay in college forever. Get paid lucrative amounts of money and doesnât pay state taxes. So free education, free housing, free books, free meals, free automobiles, and get paid to work half the year and be tax exempt⌠DAMN we are at a sad state in this world!!!â
Basically a nothing burger since it was understood the change in administrations was going to make the non-binding guidance of the previous DOE null and void. The bigger issue will be what happens to higher education in general, especially as concerns funding.
This is sad. Fortunately, these are only bills that are proposed to become law. If this were in NC I would be raising hell. There is no way in this world I would vote to get one of these tools re-elected proposing this garbage. Still doesnât impact federal income tax either. Still sad that an adult elected official would think this is a good idea. No matter how backward the state.
