At least Trump is trying to rein in the uncontrollable money in the pay to play era. Crazy that college kids are making more than pros
clt is glad this problem is now solved.
There is a huge difference in deserving to get paid snd what is happening now. $50k to $100k a season is getting paid when they also have the opportunity to get a valuable college education on top of that. Plus many perks that average students do not get. Forcing students to pay fees and fans to pool their money so some players can get hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars is not deserving to get paid. That is a moronic arms race that very few schools can afford to compete in and one that will eventually mean a lot less athletes have the opportunity to play college sports.
Some guard rails need to be put in place. No one has tried to do that yet and this meeting may not fix a thing, but at least there are people including the commissioner of our conference attempting to do something about it.
A bit simplistic but pretty much sums it up.
And this is better than network TV, ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC sports, CBS sports, the CW (I guess that’s network), and all the other options why??
I will believe revenue sharing amount even the P4 when I see it.
Although, this might just be the jolt needed to get the G6 and below to see reality and divorce themselves from the P4 and start their own competitions.
so yes. Amend. Pool your rights. Whatever it takes, just rid us of the P4

FWIW, UT Martin is one of the D1 schools that has never been to the NCAAT. And even as a D2 only made it twice. If a kid from Lithuania - and one of a dozen international hoopsters at UTM - wants to see how he fares vs better competition, then fine. Just be smart about next stop because you don’t want to find yourself riding the pine. In other words, probably better Belmont than Vandy. Of course, he’ll miss the annual soybean festival in Martin, but should eventually get over it! ![]()
