This collusion to ensure that only certain schools get the lionās share of everything is going to backfire, in my opinionā¦I can see state legislatures getting involved, perhaps Congressā¦talk about a monopoly.
Multiple AQs for conferences is un-American and anti competitive.
If the SEC and B10 get automatic byes for their champions thatās a massive competitive advantage.
The entire thing is a freaking joke.
The ACC and B12 should refuse these proposals on principle because they are being consigned to second class status.
Again appeasement doesnāt work.
The aggressor will take and take and wonāt stop until stopped.
They should just tell the other two no way, and fight it tooth and nail in court.
The only positive is if that happens in increases the chances the G5 team wins a game. They would be letting in absolutely beatable SEC and B10 teams at that point. Im sure they would still make the match ups as difficult as possible for the G5 rep, but just throwing it out there dependent on how seeding would work.
At this point, Iām just going to treat a win in the AAC Champ Game as our ultimate goal.
The language there makes it sound as though there will be 9 autobids for conference champions but Iām assuming thatās not what it means.
The guarantees referred to are $ not bids.
Oof.
Wanna highlight this line from Dellinger:
No schoolās distribution is expected to decrease, as CFP will earn 3X the amount it did in a 4-team playoff.
CFP: See G5, you will get more too!
G5: 3x more? Like $4.5 million each?
CFP: ⦠How about $300k?
Derek Dooley is quite the character. Son of legendary UGA coach Vince Dooley who succeeded Lane Kiffin at Tennessee in spite of a losing record as HC at LA Tech. Known as much for his off the wall comments as being one of the worst hires ever on Rocky Top! Smart guy who got his undergrad degree at UVA and law degree at UGA and most recently served under Lou Saban at Alabama. Have to wonder what his angle is with the G5. Hmmā¦
I see nothing wrong with this. It needs to happen.
The simple solution is a new football division.
The question is without leadership/enforcement from NCAA will there be enough G5 teams with the good sense to join up voluntarily to the new division?
A separate G5 playoff seems like a good first step.
Should be straightforward to implement (use on campus sites until the final!) and could be done without having to realign completely.
Simple format.
5 championship game winners.
The G5 that makes the main playoff is replaced by the runner up in that championship game so there is a guarantee for each conference.
3 at large bids for an 8 team three round playoff played at higher seeds home stadium until final.
Site for final?
It needs to be warm, easily accessible and a good destination besides for the game.
Vegas?? Orlando??
Alternatively, just dump the idea of an away final. Play the final at the higher seeds home all the way. Saves costs and probably guarantees great crowds the entire run.
I donāt want a G5 anything. What needs to happen is the top 30-40 schools leaving and doing their own thing. While the impact is the same with us being down a division - the difference is who is with us.
Let them have their super league. Ultimately I think thats what the top brands want - no dead weight and every school a national brand.
