Actually double edged sword for the Orange Bowl - viewership slippage for a semi but an increase for that specific event. And still won the overall ratings for the evening by a wide margin.
Pushed a week into the new year, the first College Football Playoff semifinal of the 12-team era was on the lower end of the historic scale.

Age understands what makes college sports great. Unfortunately, some of those best aspects are being taken from us.

I have to think, the upcoming CFB Championship game (ND-OSU) is going to be one of the highest viewed ever. Lots of Catholics all across America and World, not just in certain regions of the map. I think if it were Tx it might be the highest ever. One caveat, not sure how they count all the streamers now.

“How dare they not pick the entire SEC for the playoffs and not ensure two SEC teams in the title game!”

Not sure what to make of this. Maybe best option is not play championship game at all.
The idea of having top 4 play on final weekend of regular season reminds me of that stupid thing C-USA did in men’s hoops.
Phillips said the ACC could consider giving its regular-season champion a bye, and have the teams that finish second or third in the league standings play in the ACC championship game.
He said another possibility is having the top 4 teams play on the final weekend of the regular season: first place versus fourth place, and second place vs. third place, with the winners playing the following weekend in the ACC championship game.

Only 9th meeting between schools just 275 miles apart. Irish started playing football in 1887; Buckeyes in 1890.

Definitely a service academy-like drive:
This might get ugly. Man to man against OSU is not going to work if there is no one spying on Howard.

So much for an entertaining championship game.
