Conference Realignment (Part 2) šŸ—ŗ

Of course they do. SMH.

Let me guess. They will go down to 5 auto bids.

It’s only 2 commissioners out of 10 (soon to be 9?). I realize it’s probably Sankey and whoever the hell took Warren’s job at the B1G, but they can go pound sand.

Those 6 autobids, especially if the PAC is no more, are the antidote to all the greed and consolidation going on right now. They won’t cure it, but they are a powerful way to level the playing field. Quite honestly, unless I’m a blue blood powerhouse in those leagues, I might rather be in the AAC or MWC - my path to the CFP might be easier.

It’ll only last as long as the current contract (2026 season), so our goal / hope is to show how awesome it is to still try to preserve some levels of access and parity. All the G5 schools need to make it count. We might be getting 2 bids to the show these last few seasons.

Also, I told some tool off about this on Twitter tonight. I’m getting really sick of educating people that 1) there are more than 2 or 5 conferences, and that 2) the autobids aren’t tied to any leagues. They’re just to the top 6 league champs. Period.

That’s such a fantastic system. If it can be maintained for more than just two or three years the cumulative effect on recruiting hiring fundraising etc will do more for the health of the game than anything else that has been done in a long long time.

clt says stanford golf is really good and would be a welcome addition to the aac

With these mega conferences happening - I fully expect the CFP to only include teams from them, same with the NCAA Tournament. They do not want to share the money pie outside of those leagues. It’s a have and have not world.

There current CFP setup goes through 2026. I can see it changing then.

IMO we have this window to show that this is the right way to do things, for the sport and for the fans.

The way we do that is for the G5 schools to show they belong and to generate lots of buzz. It’s the equivalent of making the case for more mid major inclusion in the NCAA tournament, which the CFP has not ever really had. This is our shot.

I think the MWC Merger makes more sense, but that’s interesting to think about. The more I look at it, the better it looks. It reminds me a bit of the Big12 before they added the 4 corner schools, though spread out more.

The concession to make IMHO is to schedule by division almost exclusively, which would tremendously lower travel costs and create the best regionality.

In all seriousness, there’s no need to even play the other division in football except in a championship game. That’s really different, but I think it would make things way more palatable to the west Coast schools, and he’ll give me that East division all day long. That’s close to the league I wanted years ago.

I know the PAC schools would rather grab like Rice and SMU instead of Wyoming and San Jose State and just .ake their own best of the rest league… But with exit fees I don’t know how workable that is, as the PAC contract won’t be great.

Would have been brutal.

Even better:

AAC EAST

UAB

ECU
FAU

Navy / Wichita
N Texas
SMU
USF
Temple
Tulane

AAC WEST

Air Force

Colorado St

Texas schools and Tulsa could be juggled.

This would be a really strong league.

Despite the geography if that’s the choices I think institutionally the AAC is a better fit. We have better TV exposure too. The AAC needs to be prepared though for it to be Oregon St and Washington St at some point in the future though.

Wouldn’t be a new P5. Already hearing talking heads say Big 12 will no longer be a power conference after this year.

If the Big 12 tells them no, I’m not sure we aren’t at least the 3rd best option (#2 going independent?).

Wut?

The big 12 has an exceptional group of schools, including one that played in the national championship this past season (even if they did get embarrassed).

Unless Clemson can return to form I’d have them as a solid 3rd in football.

While I think it’s sad, I am not as bitter about it as he is.

The players can leave…they’re not stuck
